I bought my S22 Ultra 512gb almost 2 weeks ago. It's super annoying that the gps doesnt work repeatedly if your is on idle mode for a while. This means the navigation doesn't work at all and you have to restart the phone!!!
Also, even if I turn off the adaptive brightness, the phone will dim my screen automatically while using any navigation app which makes it frustrating when you use it during the day.
It seems that this phone is not as good as expected! I might return it!!!

There has been a few threads in relation to GPS , with it not working as it should. If you perform a Forum Search you should see these threads, and they may hold some advice and information.
I checked my phone when I read these threads, and as far as I can tell my Google Maps App works fine.
I also use a Bus App which tracks my buses using GPS and that works fine.
It's a conundrum why some work and some glitch on these phones.
If your within your cooling off period then ask for a replacement or refund , whichever suits your own personal choice @Members_CVWxQJY
I wish you all the best.

The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.
I'm here to help. " This is the way. "

The exynos variant of the S22 may be missing out on another function that the snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC has according to sammobile -"Snapdragon 888 chipsets, in particular, will soon take advantage of new technologies from Trimble RTX that enable metre-level location accuracy"

I have the same issue, i just got the s22 ultra and noticed it right away, so i am returning it next week, almost got into an accident, because my nose was right up the screen because i couldnt read the streetname because of the automatic dimming.Going back to my Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, it has better benchmarks anyways.

I turn off adaptive brightness and turn the screen brightness all the way up, within about 15 seconds of opening Google maps the screen dims down yet the slider doesn't move. When I close out Google maps within about 15 seconds the screen brightens back up.
It also does it with the Waze app. I thought the phone was defective and ordered a new one and before I would take it I told the technician at the Samsung store to open it and test it for me. The brand new one did the same exact thing as did his s22 Ultra.
What's is that if you minimize the screen size of Google maps and run another app, Google maps brightens up again. It seems to only happen while it's in full screen. It's actually very dangerous if you're trying to use navigation.
I wiped the cache and uninstalled updates.
It doesn't happen on my OnePlus 9 Pro. It's a Samsung problem for sure.
