Screen brightness is one of the major factors of battery drain so if you are happy with lower brightness go for it.
It's also easier on the eyes at night as mentioned.

How do you find it @sarasphotobox when it's turned On and then Off ?

Personally I prefer to leave it off as I find the phone's display easier to read.

I find it ok it's better not too bright when turned on but I think battery wise it's different doeendijv on usage really.
