Why does the spell checker only suggest words beginning with the same letter

Say if I typed  "eeek" instead of "week" i will get a list of words beginning with "E" but no suggestion of week (on the pc i am using to type this it does suggest "week"

I am using the samsung default keyboard and i have predictive text turned off and this is the autospell check. Ive had the phone over a year so not a new problem, but eyesight has got worse and it's becoming more of a problem.

I suppose it's a limitation of that particular part of the software @christywhisty 

Have you tried using predictive text as I personally find this particularly useful.

That or do try out other keyboards to see if another is better suited for your needs.

Thank you , i have deceided to try out the Gboard one instead. It just seems a huge step backwards. I have had Samsungs for many years and don't understand why they have changed to this, when the spell check was perfectly  adequate before.
