Having a lot of problems with the fingerprint sensor. Fails to recognise on first try. Often take 2, 3 or sometimes 4 attempts.

-same fingerprint enrolled 4 times, no difference.

-often prompts to cover the whole sensor despite the whole sensor being covered.

-tried clearing cache

-same issue occurs in safe mode

Sorry, can't help you but my S20 plus is exactly the same!!
I think the problem with getting these phones on release is that all these issues pop up and we have to wait for software updates to get these niggles fixed, absolutely annoying though and you're not on your own!!

Hello @KeenyWeeny  @Woodstar

A couple of tips I picked up when setting up the finger prints are.

When setting up take x3 scans with each thumb and then rotate the phone around when taking further prints of each thumb so your phone can read both thumbs from the same finger print scan. Scan your prints as you woukd normally hold the phone.

Go into Settings . Biometrics and Security.  Biometrics Preferences . Turn Off Screen Transition Effect.

Then go into Settings and search for Optomise Battery Usage. Tap in Optimise  Battey Usage  tap to show All and scroll down to com.samsung.android.biom and toggle Off

For me this improved the fps on my Note 10+ 5G which I appreciate is a different model to yours but should be the same outcome- hopefully.

The whole range has this issue. Ultra works 50% of the time.

Agree it's awful, the sensor on s8 was great, no problems worked 99% 1st attempt, never had issue with position on rear, very easy to find with phone case. S20+ sensor never works, I end up having too many attempts & needing to use pin instead. Also removed health tools like heart rate & O2 measurements, not too mention all the fanfare over a camera that delivers pictures no better than the s8. If I had been able to get s8+ 3 years ago I wouldn't have bothered upgrading, all I've gained is bigger screen & battery, my s8 was in perfect working order, looked new, worked as new. I'm close to throwing s20+ out the window with its useless fingerprint sensor

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Unfortunately the fingerprint sensor is still garbage and seems to be getting worse. Social media support weren't able to provide any solutions outside of the factory resetting the phone or using safe mode. Unfortunately due to my work I need to have biometrics enabled for security. It's a real shame because the rest of the phone is good. I think at this point I'll likely sell the S20+ and go back to my Huawei P20 Pro.

What worked for me was clearing all fingerprints, cleaning the screen and my hands, setting them up again, but not pushing very firm at all, just place my finger on it with almost no pressure both when I set them up and then when I use it to unlock. Before that i set it up with some firm pressure and after that when i try to unlock it was working like 20% of the time. Now its more like 90+% of the time.

So bottom line: Set them up again with very little pressure, just rest your finger on the sensor and then use it the same way. No need to set the same finger 4 times i have the main finger in 2 scans (and in the second scan it is mixed with another finger so it is in 1,5 scans).

Works very well for me. Only time it fails is when I miss the sensor.
