Usb c sennheiser lavalier mic. Sometimes works, sometimes does not. Why

Using native camera app. Lavalier Usb c microphone will sometimes work, but sometimes not. It's a sennheiser. Works well when working. Sometimes playback is mute. Can't see any reason for not playing back. Why is this. Phone is a 10s+
