Turning on hotspot - doesn't work as it should do

I pull down the top menu and press the Hotspot button.

Doesn't seem to work.

I've since worked out I need to turn off Wifi.

That seems a little silly.

The fact that you have Hotspot means you are sharing your mobile internet data.

(As far as I know, you can't make a hotspot of the current connected Wifi.)

All my old phones were like this - turn on Hotspot and Wifi would get turned off.

Am I missing something? Is this something to do with Android 10?

Thanks.

This is what i get when turning on Hotspot on my phone with WiFi toggled On.

Not sure if it's an Android 10 thing or a Samsung phone thing !

So if I am connected to xyz WiFi and I turn on hotspot... This shares the WiFi?
If so... That's absolutely awesome!
My understanding was that this wasn't allowed.

So if connected to a hotel WiFi, I can't then become a hot-spot and allow others to connect to the hotel WiFi through me?

Tethering has it's own protocols such as a person  needing a passcode to be able to latch to a another person's hotspot.

Proof is in the pudding if you get the opportunity to try @matrixstar

When using hot-spot the WiFi connects to the device you are tethering to use mobile data, you do not connect to any other network

@Pugs1957 sounds like you are sayign what I thought all along?

When you use Hotspot - you share your own mobile internet data

When you press the Hotspot button, it doesn't turn off Wifi and doesn't work at all.

ONLY when you turn off Wifi does it work.

How odd? You use Hotspot, you HAVE to press 2 buttons. First the Hotspot button and secondly you have to turn off the Wifi. How odd.

Am I missing something here?

Yes,totally, it's only for sharing mobile data with a device you allow to share it.
Hope that helps
