S10 Notifications not waking up screen!

I converted from IOS to the Samsung Galaxy S10 recently and the one and only thing that has been troublesome is trying to figure out how to allow notifications to wake up the screen.

Sometimes I have my phone on the desk whilst working on my computer, the only way I'd notice if I've received a notification is if the screen lights up, but I can't manage to find such option in the settings.

I'm not looking for solutions that involve 3rd-party applications. I'm looking for a solution within the device itself.

Notifications don't light up the screen on Samsung. However GLIMPSE is the app you need to download which does the trick.

this only works with Native Samsung apps, it doesn't work for me with Whatsapp or Gmail 😞 same for edge light

After searching for a while, the only two solutions I've found are following:

  • Use third-party application called Glimpse.
  • Enable Edge lightning Settings -> Display -> Edge screen -> Edge lightning.
    • This will not work for Facebook Messenger as they send notifications via chat bubbles that can not be disabled at the date of this writing.
    • This works with Whatsapp, provided you go to Settings -> Notification -> Popup notification -> No popup

Yes, was however looking for a better solution than third-party applications.

Does not flash screen if phone screen is off, neither do I think anyone wants that. Using camera flash is plainly annoying and I'd prefer just using Edge lightning.

Edge lightning works with Whatsapp, provided you go to Settings -> Notification -> Popup notification -> No popup

i'm not a fan of edge light so i'm not bothered really... but i would like to have my screen turning on when i get a whatsapp notification, same as when i get a normal message. It looks like there's no solution other than installing Glimpse notifications
