PSA: Abnormal data usage

Hi. This post is just to ask every user who upgraded to OneUI 2 to check if the mobile data usage stats match the total of the data your device reports it consumed.

 

There's a few reports of people who updated their devices and now have abnormally high data usage. Here's what one person's problem looked like, you'll understand what I mean when I say that it doesn't match the total.

It's one example but there's a thread on the Android forums (by Google) with quite a few people reporting this issue on a variety of devices, including Europe.

 

So I ask that you check if this issue applies to you too and let me know. I have a "workaround" for this issue but getting the files takes a while/is expensive so I want to make sure that people in Europe are affected before I start uploading them.

 

As it's an issue that can directly cause you monetary losses, I am making such intervention.

Here's the thing:

Third party apps do not seem to be able to pick it up. See the Canadian thread about this. But I don't think anyone tried it before so I'll go ask around. It's worth a shot but as the total data usage does not appear for third party apps, I honestly think it's a superpowered system telemetry app who cloaks itself which would also hide from any on-device app.

 

I do not possess an affected device (I'm rocking a Note9 who didn't get Q yet) so unfortunately I can't try myself.

I have the same problem, but it's seems like the phone is consuming all the data.

 

 

I only used around 3gb of my data plan when adding together all the apps consumption, but my phone and data provider said that I used 5gb.

 

I have a Samsung Galaxy S10 (brand new).

Hi, I have the same problem and it already cost me $20. Samsung Australia support were useless and suggested the problem is my usage. 

 

Model: SM-G975F

CSC: G975FOXM3BSK0

(I'm in the United States. I couldn't tell if you were only looking for European confirmation, but this is happening for me)

Phone is reporting 7.57GB data usage, confirmed by my carrier.

App usage totals less than 4GB
Chrome = 2.35GB
Mobile Hotspot and Tethering = 0.31GB
YouTube = 0.05GB
Google Play services = 0.02GB
ConfigUpdater = 0.01 GB
Google = 0.01 GB
Clash of Clans = < 0.01GB

...all else under 0.01GB

I already had confirmation it was affecting US and Canadian models, but I didn't have Note10/Note10+ North America confirmation. So I'll try to get the files for you and the one who posted before you.

No need, you have an US model. There is only one Multi-CSC code so I can guess it haha.
