Just check all settings in your email account are correct,

IMAP settings

  • Incoming Mail Server: mail.btinternet.com
  • Port: 993 (this should be automatically populated if you tick the SSL Encryption)
  • SSL Encryption: Enabled (but not STARTTLS)
  • Username: your email address including the @btinternet or @btopenworld.com part
  • Password: your btinternet password
  • Root folder/path:
  • Folder separator: . (full stop)
  • Please don't enable "secure password authentication" (SPA). It's not needed when you use SSL encryption and won't work.

POP3

Server: mail.btinternet.com

Port: 995 (this should be automatically populated when you tick SSL Encryption)

SSL Encryption: Enabled (but not STARTTLS)

Username: your email address including the @btinternet or @btopenworld.com part

Password: your btinternet password

POP from folder: By default, POP will pull emails from your Inbox

SMTP settings

  • Outgoing Mail Server: mail.btinternet.com
  • Port: 465 (this may not be automatically populated on selection of SSL, so you'll need to check this)
  • SSL Encryption: Enabled (but not STARTTLS)
  • Authentication: PLAIN
  • Username: your email address including the @btinternet or @btopenworld.com part
  • Password: your btinternet password

I have a similar problem trying to set up an active24 account. Active24 have not managed to help me. I have an S10 Plus 500GB. This mail worked on my old (lost) S7 Edge.

Here's the screen captures:

< Server settings (set up using "other")

Account
Email address:
j***e@m******is.org.uk
Username:-
<My own name>
Password:-
Password works with Active24 WebMail
Incoming server
IMAP server:-
email.active24.com
Security type:-
SSL
Port:-
993
IMAP path prefix Optional:-
nothing put here
Outgoing server
SMTP server:-
email.active24.coml
Security type:-
TLS
Port:-
587
Require authentication to send emails:-
Neither on or off work
<my name put her> also tried email address
Doesn't work with authentication off
same password used

Sign in leads to this error:-
Couldn't verify account
"The username or password is incorrect or POP3/IMAP access isn't turned on for this account. Check your email account settings on the web, then try again."

Could it be expecting something under "IMAP path prefix"?

Anyone have any ideas?

I don't think so. It's like the bt addresses. The server is the same for POP3 and IMAP.  The server decides how to respond. Ative24 are absolutely clear it is email.active24.com  for both. Anyway, it works with my Windows Live Mail.
