The andorid 12 update installed yesterday evening, the screen then became possessed and would touch random areas on phone. Did a reboot and then couldn't enter startup password as phone was unresponsive from the right side of screen. Exactly half. Clear cache didnt solve and a factory reset did not solve issue.
Has completely screwed me over

I have similar issue on my S10, but it's the top part of the screen. For example, I cannot use the "search" bar in the apps screen. I tested the responsiveness by dialing *#0*# and going into "touch". If I press on the top two rows of rectangles or above them, the presses aren't registered, but if I press anywhere else and drag up to the top part of the screen, the rectangles turn green. I can, however, pull down the notification bar and click the icons which are in that part of the screen.
I tested safe mode like @xSteveuk suggested and it works.
edit: There was a similar issue 3 weeks ago by a S20 user, here's the post, and someone in the comments mentioned their Energy bar app crashing and that disabling it fixed the issue. I also use the app so I tried the same and the screen works as it should. If you have any such apps, I'd suggest to try disabling them.

S10e: Update from Android 11 to 12 screwed up my phone! Touchscreen unresponsive, works only in SAFE MODE. But in SAFE MODE all additional apps are disabled and I need TraceTogether Covid tracking app (mandatory!) to get into the company for work! So, no choice - had to buy a new phone (ASUS Zenfone 8).
Question: any way to roll back the update or install Android 11 again??
Thx for help.
