Are the Note-9 and the Note-9 (hybrid) fundamentally different (I'm guessing they are), or is their difference simply the type of SIM tray they use?

I'm assuming you can't simply swap from single-SIM tray to dual- tray to turn the phone into a hybrid?

Pretty much the case.

The hybrid duos version. Takes x2 sims or 1 sim and a sd card.

The single sim version cannot be converted as it does not have the software or hardware.

For example in my Note 9 Hybrid I can select certain preferences between sim 1 and sim 2 etc.

Current Phone ~

Samsung Note 20 Ultra 5G SM-N9860_256Gb SnapDragon 865+

Samsung One Ui 2.5/ Android 10.
