So on an almost daily basis now I wake up in the morning to find photos from yesterday just a grey box with a exclamation on.
I run a small business from my phone so those photos are my livelihood to a certain extent.
Can't work out the pattern as to which ones are gone while others have stayed. Some are the original image some are the edited, watermarked version.
I believe all will be saved to the SD card even once resaved by my editing app.

I am also having more and more issues with the auto focus on the device shuddering in and out of focus no matter how far away from the subject I am and what the lighting conditions are.

I'm having to use pro-mode to get a focus.

Please help I'm getting really deflated by my experience with my first Samsung phone.

Looks like an SD card problem. Try to repair on a Windows PC, backup your files and get a new SD card.

where did you get your SD card from? if the images on the phone memory (if any) are fine then it looks like the SD card is corrupted (as Pugs1957 stated)

sometimes memory cards can look cheap on places like eBay etc but you can get fake or dodgy memory cards that can corrupt easily.

it's worth connecting your phone to a laptop/pc to export the media from that memory card to the laptop/pc to see if the images some how show up...

even after a format on that SD card I would get everything you can off it.

I believe it's the SD card that's at fault.
I would get it replaced and in the meantime have the photos saved in the internal storage (you can do it in the Camera settings)

This is a very common issue on Samsung phone which dates back along time.  I have had this issue on pretty much all my Samsung phones.  I have also used so many different SD cards, I only use Samsung and Sandisk brands and I always get this issue. Even if you save the photo onto your phone first and then transfer it to the SD card I'm assuming you'll get the same issue.  It'll be intresting to know what brand of SD card you used.
