small window error

I used to be able to hit the home button and have YouTube and Netflix put a small window on the home screen so I could open another app like a game or web browser.  Now it just keeps playing the sound but the small window is not there when I hit the home button. Whats up? How do I fix it in my settings? Is it possible?
