Barony A Frame, Cumnock Scotland.

Very excited to be sharing my first S25 Ultra image with you all.

In this image I used Pro Mode on an overcast☁️ cloudy day.

Because of these conditions, I purposely over exposured the image so you see no details of the clouds and creating a white canvas to shoot my subject.

This helps create negative space in my image, giving it a minimalist look with the intent to edit the image in "Black & White".

ISO 50 23MM F1.7 1/180s

The over exposure you see in the original RAW image helps bring up the under exposured areas of the old mining A Frame, allowing me to easily bring these details out in post editing.

As you can see from the raw images caption I didn't have to increase my ISO levels, so left it at ISO 50 as this reduces noise in the image.

All I had done was bring up the shutter speed to 1/180 sec ( 1 over 180th of a second ) and used the Zebra Pattern option in Pro Mode to monitor over exposure.

Using rules of thirds.

As well as using over exposure for this image, framing me composition for this subject was also important.

I always have my rules of thirds enabled on my phones to help position and find interesting compositions.

You can see from the example above I have one of the legs of the A Frame lined up on the vertical line on the right hand side of the guide lines whilst still giving myself negative space in the top third boxes of the guide line.

When finding a subject like this to shoot up at to create a negative space using the sky, you need to keep walking around the subject to find an interesting composition that will provide a balance with the sky and make a an interesting image.

So that's my in depth tip of how to use than overcast ☁️ days to your advantage.

Why don't you try this on these overcast days and find a subject or use something like a flower you picked and hold it up to the sky.

There are loads of things you can do. All you need to do is point that camera up.

I hope you found this useful and please share a comment or even an image showcasing this idea.
