My Wife taught me a little saying to explain why she always welcomes Robins to our garden and will always talk to them. It brought a lump to my throat when I first heard it, as it really is a beautiful saying. It is simply, "Robins Appear Whenever Lost Loved Ones Are Near." I have not long ago lost both my parents, and I always notice Robins now, and will take time to stop and watch them wherever I am and whatever I am doing.
Something about being so close to a Robin. The trust they have in you to be around you. I used to have one at home, every time cutting the grass I pulled back the mower. It would drop down and look for food. Used to take ages to mow the garden as had to keep waiting till it flew out of the way
They are bold little birds for sure. We have one in a woodland walk very near our house that will come down to feed from people's hands if they offer it food. It is quite a well known bird locally on social media. I also remember when my Wife and I were only work colleagues, and she would come to my house to gift me a lift in to work when my car was off the road. We would spend time just talking to each other in her car in my garden, and EVERY time we did this the same Robin would be on my garden gate just watching us intensely. My Wife had lost her Mum at the time and would sometimes shed a little tear when this Robin appeared. This bonded me to her almost immediately, and our relationship developed from there. As our relationship developed, our little Robin seemed to follow us everywhere. And other family members had visits too. Very special birds Robins.
