Hi there,

Does anyone else find that when connected to WiFi after any amount of time, short or long it acts as though you are not connected. When you click the WiFi button it shows as connected, but with the message "Couldn't authenticate connection". It doesn't appear to be my WiFi as other devices and users are accessing and using it without disruptions. I eventually get reconnected after turning the WiFi off and one a few times, but it would be good if anyone has a fix they can share. (I've tried a restart and OS update and it's still the same.)

Thanks

Mostly the same problem.

I have an A12 and it will not connect to the wifi that I have connected it before to. I have tried restarting it and taking out the SIM card but none of it is working. The wifi stopped connecting after yours truly left it in the washing machine. I am not surprised by this because I definitely expected damage (there is more damage than what I have included here) but losing wifi is just getting annoying.

If anyone has a fix please let me know!

I have the same issue with my Galaxy A52.

I have to restart my phone every time to get connected again.

Have the same problem on my S20 FE. Getting knocked out of my home wifi, multiple times per hour is torture.

I tried airplane mode, forget, restart, restart Modem, set static IP. Either it doesn't do anything or it comes back soon.

The can't authenticate thing only happens to my home wifi 2.4ghz, (haven't had it on 5ghz, but mostly never in range, so haven't used that connection for long periods), and it hasn't happened for my work wifi yet.

Any updates?

So i may be able to help some of you here.

I have a a71, which replaced my a5 2017 which is stuck in odin mode since may 5th 2017. Anyway

My a71 started doing the couldnt authenticate connection when connected to my 5gbz. It then locked me out completely for 10 days and was only able to get on the 2.4gbz. When the 5gbz wasnt allowing me on, my devices in the house, tv and nest speaker started showing as available networks to be connected to.

Also many igmp joins and streams started

Many dns name resolution failures

I managed to get into the 5gbz settings without being connected to it,

the answer: changing the bandwidth down and channel for 5gbz to auto, it fixed it immediately. I did not need to change to mac settings

Im still having issues and there is a definite connection between this phone and the issue.

My partners phone which never connects to 5gbz never has any connection issues.

I get 2.4gbz couldnt authenticate connection randomly now though, but only on my phone the other 3 devices that are on the 2.4gbz do not have the connection issues while my phone does.

My 5gbz often shows up in my secure wifi alert, as a public network that is connected to " hairdressers " down my street.

Moving to 2.4gbz then back to 5gbz takes the alert away.

I have been sent a new router because something isnt right.

Check your router logs

Change bandwidth to a lower one especially if you are using 5gbz

Then allow automatic channel control

I have this problem with my home wifi.  Cannot authenticate connection.
It will connect to various wifi systems at restaurants and my wifi hotspot, but not my home router.
Have reset the router, and followed all the suggestions.  Everything but the full factory reset.
It was able to connect successfully.  And 5 minutes later the connection reset and again Cannot authenticate connection.

Any further ideas?

Any chance you are with Vodafone for your broadband? Your issue sounds the same as mine and in the last 12 months switched to Plusnet broadband and have never had a problem since, this is with the same model phone as when I made the original post.
We had issues with other devices which connect to WiFi and Vodafone would tell us that the devices were "old tech" or "needed updating", however they all work fine now we aren't with Vodafone
