Hello Samsung Support,
I would like to confirm whether the Samsung Galaxy A23 LTE will receive the One UI 7 update.
If the update will not be released for this model, could you please explain the reason behind this decision? For example, is it due to hardware limitations, software update policy, performance concerns, or regional/carrier restrictions?
Thank you very much for your clarification.

Hi, this is a software policy, the phone released in 2022, since the start it was known that the last update will be oneui6.1 android 14. Src: https://m.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_a23-11373.php
Almost nothing is hardware limitation, as you can see there are phones like a06 with hello g85
https://nanoreview.net/en/soc-compare/qualcomm-snapdragon-680-vs-mediatek-helio-g85
And they will get android 18. However no company can support all their models indefinitely, samsung does a good job supporting low, mid & high end devices considering alot of Chinese low/mid range phones barely get 1 year of updates (often not even that)
What you can do in your own case, is.. to either buy a new phone, or check if there is a custom rom for a23. If you follow this path know that banking apps, and HID apps (access cards) won't install or work on your phone.
I hope I helped and apologies for the bad news

Good morning.

Thanks for the explanation.
I understand Samsung’s official update policy and that the A23 was announced to stop at One UI 6.1 / Android 14. My point isn’t about what was promised, but that this is clearly a policy decision rather than a hardware limitation, as similar or weaker devices continue to receive longer support.
I agree Samsung generally does better than many competitors, but extending support even slightly would improve device longevity. Custom ROMs aren’t a realistic solution due to banking and security limitations.

I understand and fully agree with you, this isn't about weaker devices support but marketing and profit, the best example was motorola moto Droid (good specs for the time) from 2011 if im not mistaken, while it could perfectly run android 4, it was forever stuck in android 2.x. Companies offer some support without extended plans since phones are treated as consumables, which is what brings profits to a company.
If you want want extended support you must get a phone with unlocked bootloader, open-source drivers and the freedom to install anything from linux for arm architecture, windows 11 for arm devices or some bsd arm port. If you could do this theoretically you'd have security support and updates for 5-10 years... but you and everyone else owns either an android or an iPhone, therefore these devices are locked in apple/Google ecosystem. Such phones do exist, their prices are insane, their performance is subpar if not awful, but they give you the option to install whatever operating system you want and you will not enjoy it.
Sorry if I went too technical
