Removing USB OTG crashes phone and Restart needed

I have a Viofo Dashcam that records MP4 Video to a micro usb, to view recordings on my A40 I use an adapter between USB A and USB C plugging my phone into the C Phone socket  and the USB A into a SD Card reader.

So in line: A40>OTG Adapter lead>USB Card reader>Micro card 64gb.

I can view and remove the recordings on my PC (Win11) with eject. But that is not available on the A40 (As far as I know?) If I just unplug the chain the phone states I have removed the card unsafely and to restart the phone. Which is rather annoying!

How do I remove the chain from the phone without having to restart it? My guess is it's to do with unmounting the card but if that is right where do I find how to do it?

Alternatively is there another option?

There should be an eject notification. We have vastly different phones but it should be a notification that lets you unmount it zAjFoiNuoi.png

Just tried, no mention of unmount in any of the screens I checked.

Is there a card reader you can connect directly? Probably the lead causing the screw up.

Not sure what version of Android your on, but I get this with my BT USB I use with my other Earbuds, just shuts the phone down cold and dead, but a restart sorts it, but never used to do that.

It is most likely both our 3rd party gadgets are not keeping there software updated or Google can't be bothered.

Hit the wrong button. My Android version is 11 as of the 1st August. The phone can accept the chain and play the recordings, it's just how to un-mount the drive before unplugging the chain, I am sure I found it a while ago by accident when looking for something else!

Unmount should be in file manager, top right settings button.
