My husband applied an update to his phone (A53 5g) yesterday morning. It spent all morning in what I believe is called a bootloop, and then told him there had been too many unsuccessful tries to unlock it, and that it was looked for 24 hours. 24 hours later it was giving the same message except it now said to try again in 23 hours and 56 minutes. We have tried the forced restart with the down volume key and the on/off button. BTW he had only tried twice to unlock it when it locked him out.

Hello @muffinnme
Welcome to the Samsung Community Forum 👋
I'm sorry to hear your experiencing these issues with this phone 😔
We have seen recent posts as to where a phone has become unstable after an update.
If you perform a forum search you may find existing threads with some further help or guidence within.
But then again my phones have been fine after the update 🤔 so it is a conundrum.
Some have reported that their phone's have been looked at by Samsung, and need a replacement Motherboard.
Here are some troubleshooting steps that may help, however ultimately a Samsung Service Centre or Samsung Experience Store maybe need hands on > https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/repair/

The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.
I'm here to help. " This is the way. "

Thanks for the info BandOfBrothers. I have forwarded to my husband, but from how his phone was acting all of yesterday, trying to restart continuously all by itself, even when I had managed to turn it off once, I suspect it needs a new motherboard.
Cheers

I have the same exact issue. Christmas Eve I woke up and my phone told me it needed to be unlocked to fully restart. I unlocked my phone and everything was fine. I left it for a few minutes and when I looked back at it, it had restarted again, but this time it was stuck in a boot loop.
I tried all of the recommended fixes and nothing has helped. Can’t put it into recovery mode because it just infinitely reboots. Even after letting the battery drain and then putting it on charge, as soon as the charger is turned on, it boots by itself into a boot loop.
I’m assuming that I’ve probably lost all of my data at this point. 1000s of photos/videos just gone overnight. Literally. (I should’ve backed my data up more often, but you don’t expect your phone to just die with no warning) lesson learned.
Question; Was there an update that just recently came out? I didn’t have any notifications of an update in the days/weeks before it happened.
