Flashing ring around front camera

My wife just bought a new A51 5G. There is a weird phenomenon around the front camera, as if a narrow 4-5 mm ring is flashing (or changing colour) every 40...50 sec. My first thought was that the camera is taking pictures (and sending somewhere...) but actually taking a picture is not showing the same flash. Glancing through the manual gives no hints. Any suggestions?

if you have face ID enabled it puts a ring around the front camera

same on my a51 5g and yes it is to do will with face ID

also it may be set to alert if she has notifications, my old s10+ used to do it

I also use A51 5g and face id, it does that for me too
