A firewall wont stop emails, good or bad. Check with whoever provides your email, because Samsung Email is just a front end to it.

@neonfour is right, though I wanted to add some details.

A firewall would only be able to do anything if you hosted the email server yourself at your house. You don't do this. Your phone just connects to an email server somewhere online and downloads your emails.

What you need to do is setup email filtering with your email provider, not within the samsung email app. Look for a trend with the spam, set a filter to block any mail with that trend in it. That's the most basic way to handle this.

Also kinda side thing, firewalls are sorta useless for normal home users, they don't serve any purpose. (That's not exactly true but hang on with me). They used to block outside connections talking to your devices. But in current years, your router handles that for you with NAT.

All a modern consumer firewall does now is allow you to block certain programs from using the internet.

On untrusted wifi not at your home, they are set to block basically everything from the outside coming in, but that's not going to be needed in a normal home. Oh and that's to block other people on the wifi talking to your pc, not the internet from talking to your pc

Thank you that is very helpful and saving me from spending out for a firewall. My email is ntl which is under virgin. Have already rang them and they cannot stop them coming in and won't help. I have involved the police but they can't help even though these emails are pornographic. 350 in 2 weeks. So my only choice is to delete my emai account but thanks

You should be able to enable a setting like "block external images" in your email app. It makes emails text only unless you press a button. Meaning you won't see any of the porn being sent to you.

As I mentioned earlier, look for a trend in them. Do all the emails contain the same word or phrase. Do they all come from a similar email address. If so you can block the phrase or email address

Some come from an address in Cyprus but the majority are all different Gmail accounts but I'll definitely block external images, and will look for similar words and phrases. I think that Virgin will soon dump this emai address as they are now using 02.
Whoever is generating these emails probably A1 obviously think I'm a male lol
But thank you again. You've been so helpful

Hi NannyJ. Unfortunately preventing spam can be an endless battle, I used to work in Cyber Security and some of the real looking spam emails were scary sometimes. There's an app I've recently been testing called CleanEmail which I've had success with using to clean up email subscriptions, and block unwanted senders.

There's also a PC app called MailWasher which I've setup which checks known spam emails and can auto block/blacklist them, or you can manually setup blocks and filters in both of these apps.

There's also a lot of similar apps, and browser/email extensions you can use for similar tasks. Hope this helps, spam is becoming a nightmare these days 🙏
