Feature Request: Allow Disabling the Persistent "Wi-Fi Calling" Notification

I am writing to request a small but significant UI improvement regarding the Wi-Fi Calling notification.

The Problem

Currently, when Wi-Fi Calling is active, a persistent notification is displayed:

  1. As an icon in the top-left of the status bar.

  2. As a non-dismissible card in the notification shade.

This notification is redundant because a Wi-Fi Calling status indicator already exists in the top-right Quick Settings area (next to the signal strength icon) when the notification shade is expanded.

This left-side notification provides no actionable information and creates unnecessary UI clutter.

The most significant issue occurs on an unstable connection. When the phone frequently switches between cellular and Wi-Fi Calling, the left-side notification icon constantly appears and disappears, creating a distracting "flickering" effect in the status bar. This is highly irritating.

Proposed Solution

I request that you provide an option to disable this persistent left-side notification.

A much cleaner implementation would be to simply make the existing top-right status icon (the one already shown in the expanded Quick Settings panel) the primary indicator. This icon should be made permanently visible in the main status bar's top-right corner whenever Wi-Fi Calling is active, just like the Wi-Fi, NFC, or Bluetooth icons.

This change would:

  • Remove a redundant and distracting notification.

  • Eliminate the "flickering" on unstable networks.

  • Provide the necessary status information in a logical, standard, and unobtrusive location.

Thank you for considering this improvement.

I totally understand why many users want the Wi-Fi Calling indicator visible. I also do want a clear indicator, just not a constant, intrusive notification that flashes every time the network switches and at first sight looks like an important notification (e.g. a new message).

So ideally:
• Keep the subtle Wi-Fi Calling icon next to the signal bars on the right side of the status bar
• Give users the option to disable the large notification and the left-side status icon

More choice = everyone wins.
