Try to clear cache of the WhatsApp (or reinstall it if necessary). Also check if any application updates are available and then reboot your phone. 

If the situation won't improve, please report this issue via the Samsung Members application so that our developers can have a look into it 😉.

I got my watch yesterday and have been struggling with this. Couldn't get whatsapp to work for love nor money . Turns out the sensor wasn't picking up that I was wearing my watch due to my tattoos. Switched to my wrist with no tattoos (feels really odd wearing it on the other wrist) and there ya go notifications galore.
I used the stress monitor to check if it was registering
