I've been using a LF27T370F monitor for the past 4 years and 4 months with my bedroom PC. Even with the one year extended warranty, it's surely beyond anyone's concern but mine.
And that would be fine, it's working almost flawlessly, as it did on day one.
Almost.
See, the designers that be, when making this product decided it should get with the times, and instead of the usual array of buttons, each handling a specific function, it should have a single, modern, multi-function yojstick button to do all the work.
... Well, it was a bad idea:
Under just the right circumstances, you'd rarely have to touch it, once you're satisfied with your settings, alas, what happens in a non-ideal situation?
-I religiously shut down my PC when I'm not using it. It's a habit that's burned into me from the early 90's, it's not going to change.
-This model of monitor panicks at the loss of signal when the connected PC is powered off, and shares it's distress with the user via the power LED constantly flashing, regardless of the monitor's power LED settings (working / standby)
-No one would care in an office, or even in a livingroom, but in a small enough apartment the device ends up occupying the same room I sleep in, and, being a light sleeper, I find the flashing disturbing- in fact, the LED is so well made, in a darkened room I can actually see the flashing with my eyes closed.
-I found taping it out too barbaric, auto-shutdown, if enabled, would still wait at least an hour, and I worried auto source check would mess something up that'd require manual correcting, so I went to the next best solution, manually powering on and off the monitor every day.
-In a normal single-function power button's case that'd give us 52 months x 30 days x (1 power on + 1 power off) = about 3000 button presses, which it'd surely be able to bear without trouble.
-But powering off is a bit of a hassle. Press, flick down, press again - doubling button use - and, the PC being a quick one, it'll often shut down faster than a sleepy man can fumble for the well-hiden button on the monitor's back, which causes the monitor to lose signal, and do not accept button input until it falls asleep, then get woken by another button press, potentially resulting in dozens of flicks / presses by sleepy, indelicate, and frustrated hands, putting my lifetime button use to somewhere in the couple-ten-thousands range.
-And that's all it can take apparently. In the past days, the monitor started randomly producing progressively worse and longer lasting screen flickering when the button is touched. Everything else works wonderfully, but that one button now threatens to trash a device I otherwise love and am satisfied with.
I'll black-tape the power LED now, but bloody hell! It'd have been nice if:
-The monitor had classic buttons. Innovation for innovation's sake alone is a marketing move, some tried and tested old methods are the best for a good reason.
-The LED could just NOT FLASH forever / at all.
