Hello, I have a question. I took a lot of photos with my Samsung phone, and for some reason they are all in HEIC format. After transferring them to Windows 11, they can't be opened and viewed directly. Is there any way to convert HEIC to JPG in batches on the computer without losing image quality? Thanks for your recommendations!

HEIC is now a popular format for saving photos on Android. You can change the heic to jpg on Samsung Galaxy phones.

Go to Camera -> Camera settings -> Advanced picture options. Now, turn off High efficiency pictures. After this, all photos will be taken as jpg instead of heic.

However, you still need to convert the existing heic to jpg if you want to open it on a Windows 11 PC. Here is a guide for bulk converting heic to jpg: https://www.tunesbro.com/user-guide/heic-converter.html

When you're gearing up to batch convert multiple HEIC files to JPG on Windows 11, JPGs can come out looking blurry or pixelated if they’re over-compressed. So, If you’re using tool like Photoshop, always tweak those settings to maintain higher quality. In Windows 11, if you go the Photos app route, remember that it usually defaults to fairly high compression—so check before you convert!

I have encountered a similar situation before. I wanted to convert several HEIC to JPG on Windows 11, but I didn't want to bother looking for a conversion tool. Later, I used the simplest method, which was to open the HEIC picture on Windows, and then use the screenshot tool to directly save it as a JPG. Although it is a bit manual, it is really convenient, especially when converting a small number of pictures. The effect is not bad, and it will not affect the image quality. This trick is suitable for lazy people, simple and hassle-free!

Converting HEIC files to JPG on Windows 11 can be done easily without losing quality. You can convert HEIC to JPG using the built-in Photos app in Windows 11, but this method involves a few more steps and is not strictly batch converting.

  1. Right-click on an HEIC file and choose Open with > Photos.
  2. In the Photos app, click the three dots in the upper right corner and select Save as.
  3. Choose JPG as the file format and save it.
  4. Repeat for other files.

Are you familiar with the command prompt tool in Windows? This is a free way to bulk convert heic to jpg on Windows PC.

Windows doesn’t natively support HEIC in the command line, but using tools like ImageMagick or FFmpeg, you can convert HEIC images to JPG directly through the command line interface. This approach is particularly helpful if you have multiple files to convert or want to automate the process.

Step 1: Download and install ImageMagick on your Windows PC. During installation, make sure to check the box for “Add application directory to your system path” to enable command-line access.

Step 2: Open the Command Prompt. Run the following command, replacing input.heic and output.jpg with your file names:

magick convert input.heic output.jpg

This is my favorite way to convert heic to jpeg on Windows 11 PC. However, it will take sometime to set it up for parameters.

Indeed, it is easy to convert HEIC to JPG using the photo app, but saving them one by one is a bit troublesome! Have you tried batch conversion tools? For example, online conversion websites or third-party software?

By the way, are your HEIC files exported from iPhone or other devices? If there are many files, would it be more convenient to get them all done at once? Do you want to work together to find an efficient method? 😄

While many newer devices and software applications support HEIF and its variant, HEIC, older systems such as Windows 11 and software may not readily recognize this format. This is where the HEIF Images Extension for Windows 11 comes in.

The HEIF Images Extension is a Microsoft Store add-on designed to enable Windows 11 users to view and manage HEIF and HEIC files effortlessly. Moreover, it provides convenient options for converting HEIC images to a more widely supported format, such as JPEG (JPG). In this guide, we will walk you through the steps to install this extension and use it to convert HEIC images to JPEG on your Windows 11 PC.

  1. After installing the extension, go to the location where your HEIC files are saved, such as the Pictures folder or Downloads.
  2. Right-click on the HEIC image you want to convert.
  3. Hover over the “Open with” menu and select Photos. This will open the HEIC file in the Windows Photos app.
  4. Once the image is open in the Photos app, click on the three dots (ellipsis) in the top-right corner and select Save as from the dropdown menu.

In the dialog that appears, change the file type to JPEG (*.jpg) in the Save as type dropdown menu.

You can use the screenshot tool to convert HEIC to JPG on Windows 11. Although it is a bit cumbersome, it is really practical! I encountered a similar situation before. I transferred a bunch of HEIC files to the computer, but they couldn't be opened. I was so anxious. Later, I had an idea and used the screenshot tool to solve it!

The method is actually very simple:

  1. Open the HEIC picture and view it with the built-in photo application of Windows.
  2. Then press Win + Shift + S, and the screenshot tool will pop up.
  3. Use the mouse to frame the entire picture and take a screenshot.
  4. The screenshot will be automatically saved as a PNG file, which can be used directly or converted to JPG later!

At that time, in order to save time, I took screenshots while listening to music, which was quite efficient. Although it is a bit troublesome, there is no need to install other software at all, and the image quality is also good! Do you want to try it? Or, do you have a faster operation than me?

I don't agree with this. The performance of Image Extension is awful for converting heic to jpg on Windows 11 and Windows 10.

First, the built-in Photos app does not support batch processing natively; users can only convert one HEIC file to JPG at a time. And bulk processing can be slow due to the individual processing method. Opening and converting many files can lead to high CPU and memory usage, causing the conversion to lag or fail.

In some cases, users have reported differences in quality between the original HEIC files and the converted JPGs, especially with detailed or high-contrast images.

You should consider using dedicated third-party HEIC to JPEG converter applications that support bulk conversion of HEIC to JPG.
