What is SmartThings Energy?

How SmartThings Energy works

After connecting your smart meter to SmartThings, it will start sending a daily update of your home’s previous day’s electricity usage to the app.

When coupled with Samsung’s range of intelligent devices, SmartThings Energy can be used to automatically switch appliances to low energy mode, notify you if appliances are running when no one is at home, and also notify you when your energy consumption exceeds monthly targets.

SmartThings Energy can take your actual energy usage, in order to help you adjust your energy usage and minimise costs. And through a partnership with Uswitch, the UK’s leading energy switching site, once you have logged 90 days usage SmartThings Energy will let you know of cheaper energy tariffs and even initiate your switch – all within the app!

How to set SmartThings Energy up

You’ll need three things:

- A UK smart meter installed in your home;

- A recent energy bill to verify your identity;

- The SmartThings app.

Then set up using these seven simple steps:

1. Once you’ve set up your smart meter, click on the ‘Life’ tab and select ‘SmartThings Energy’.
2. Download the SmartThings app on iOS or Android and set up an account.
3. Open SmartThings on your mobile, click on the “devices” tab and press the ‘+’ symbol. Then ‘Add device’.
4. Search by brand for ‘Chameleon’ and follow the on-screen instructions.
5. Read the Privacy Policy and click ‘continue’. Then enter your house name/number and post code.
6. Upload a recent energy bill to verify your identity.
7. Create an account by entering your email address and password. Then click through the terms and conditions and select ‘Agree’.

And there you have it! It may take up to 48 hours to start receiving data from your smart meter; and it will then update daily after that.
