AI can do a lot for you. From helping you edit your photos and videos, planning your day, or keeping track of your health to transcribing and translating your calls, artificial intelligence is the technology of the future. So, what if we told you that AI could help make the future a little greener? That’s where AI Energy Mode on SmartThings comes in.
AI Energy Mode is an amazing feature in the SmartThings app that can help you cut your energy bills and reduce your carbon footprint by letting you run your home appliances more efficiently. It does this by learning the ways you use your washing machine, dishwasher, air conditioner… It then adjusts how these devices run to make sure they’re as efficient as possible.
How to activate AI Energy Mode
So, now that you’ve got everything up and running, how can AI start saving energy?
TV
When you’re watching TV at night, the curtains drawn, feeling cosy, your TV screen could probably do with being a little less bright. AI Energy Mode can use your TV’s sensors to detect what’s happening in the room and adjust the relevant settings, optimising the screen to the conditions. And if you accidentally head to bed without turning off the TV, AI Energy Mode will automatically dim the brightness when it hasn’t detected anyone watching for a while. All of this will help reduce energy consumption and save money on your bills.
Washing machine
Doing the laundry can feel like a Sisyphean task at times. Although AI can’t do the laundry for you (yet!), it can at least help you save energy whilst putting on endless loads of washing. AI Energy Mode can adjust your washing machine’s cycles to the size of the load, which can potentially reduce how much energy is consumed by as much as 70%.
Air conditioning
With the summer months not too far off, getting the right temperature at home is key. But what exactly is the right temperature for your home? And how can you get it without spending a fortune on your electricity bill? When your air conditioning unit is linked to SmartThings, AI Energy Mode can automatically change the settings, adapting to how you use your AC, as well as other factors like room temperature and humidity, helping reduce how much energy you use whilst keeping you just as cool as you need to be.
