Wildlife Watch enables anybody, anywhere in the world to act as a virtual ranger and watch over wildlife, live.

Originally launched as a pilot in 2021, it was a tremendous success in keeping one of nature's most endangered animals, the rhino, safe.

However, poaching of other wildlife has not gone away.

That’s why Samsung has once again partnered with African technology pioneers, Africam to enhance the reach of its streaming infrastructure in the bush and to continue its support of The Black Mamba Anti-Poaching Unit; an all-female troop that uses non-violent methods to prevent poaching.

How Samsung Technology is Being Used

In the latest enhancement to the programme, the Galaxy S23 Ultra and its advanced camera will be used to broadcast 24/7 live streams of wild animals.

Samsung technology is also being used to:

  • Improve the safety of the rangers on patrol. Using the Galaxy SmartTag and SmartThings Find, Black Mamba HQ will test whether they can improve their monitoring of where individual rangers are in the reserve.
  • Help local children understand the importance of wildlife conservation. The Samsung Bush Babies Animal Insights educational programme will support The Black Mambas in their work to educate young people in local communities on the importance of wildlife diversity. The Freestyle will allow them to teach their classes from anywhere, hopefully protecting the reserve for generations to come.

Become a Virtual Ranger

By becoming a virtual ranger, you can alert rangers on the ground if you see animals in danger, or see signs of poaching. Share what you see via snapshots on social media to encourage others to take part and donate to The Black Mamba Anti-Poaching Unit. With different camera views, it’s never the same watch twice.
