A year ago, joe public had a basic Chat GPT old LLM model and yet everyone company jumped on the bandwagon and borrowed, rebadged other model and starting drooling over marketing crystal ball planning volumes, i.e. we will make BILLIONS from AI subscriptions from consumers.

Fast forward to today, and we have even more updates models and AI assistants, i'd say all pretty much the same as all rely on the same LLM, the old marketing tricks of hyper inflating revenue forecasts of a product, but linking it to AI are doomed to fail by blagging to consumers everyone is subscribing.

Well a steady stream of models, keep giving the mates rates, freebies, trials all added to inflate the marketing numbers, but you can clearly see a pattern of not enough subscribers and now a crowded space for AI, reaching the point where most customers are totally bamboozled and give up.

Gemini pushed Samsung to bundled it, but now Perplexitiy is also a version that can be set like ChatGPT as a native device AI assisstant.

My personal thoughts keep falling back to Samsung and occasionally ChatGPT for images, but it is too much effort and even paying for a few subs and using ALL the commercial ones at work, I find it all a bit meh ....

What Samsung has and needs to build upon is its on device processing, privacy and ecosystem of AI tools that actually help you as you go about your day.

From AI Health insights, Phone, Smart Home, Energy, Messaging, Content creations, photo editing, etc... its all free (at the moment) and for me is just another BIG reason to keep buying Samsung.

I played at the weekend with an iPhone 16, I still have an spare iPhone 12, but the 16 reinforced my previous point, Apple gave up, just lobbed on ChatGPT and pretty much nothing else.

Like everything else, too many options mean the markets get squeezed.

You've only got to look at streaming services to see the impact.

Oh no, streaming is a problem for me, I still run Spotify Premium (for family as the quality sucks), Tidal Hifi (same for family, used to watch music videos, until Tidal dropped Samsung TV and all other support) and Qobuz Sublime (Hifi, Car, Gym, Mobile), and now also using Samsung Music as a local player 🤣

Personally I think Joe public doesn't really give a toss about AI. They'll use features like photo eraser, add me on pixel phones and circle to search but all the other stuff doesn't bother them. Not many people are going to pay a monthly subscription for it. Just to take photo eraser. If Samsung suddenly removed the feature unless you paid say £5 a month most people would rather not use it anymore. Music streaming is different as it gives people access to a vast amount of content that they can listen to on many devices. Similar to TV streaming. Most people wouldn't want to go back to just 5 TV channels. AI just doesn't give enough to the average person to make them pay for it.

You can't compare Gemini and Perplexity. The AI Gemini subscription is not just a subscription to AI, but also to Google One storage backup. That's why I prefer Google over any standalone AI. I hope Gemini stays preinstalled too.

The only AIs worth subscribing to for me are Gemini and Copilot, precisely because they connect all Google and Microsoft services. The rest AI are pure garbage for me, even Chatgpt.

With Perplexity Samsung will become iPhone-pay for everything or you will have dumb smartphone. No, thank you

They're all a failed venture for the average person. Most of the public won't pay £19 a month for AI features even if it comes with online storage. They really don't use the AI features often enough to warrant the cost and most don't require that amount of online storage.

I think we didn't understand each other well. My decision to pay for Google One 2T is primarily for storage, and Gemini Pro comes as a nice addition. The only subscriptions I would pay for AI are for backup storage, and ONLY Google and Microsoft offer that.

Only subscription i have kept long term beyond streaming is Microsoft O365 Family, but none of use or care about CoPilot, it is just annoying, we only want OneDrive and of course the MS Office APPS.

I understood what you were saying but was just pointing out that the average user doesn't need it or wants to pay that much.
