Hello,

I am looking for a tablet for note taking. It needs to be around 8" in size, as my Tab S7 is too large for this task. The only 8" I see in Samsung's lineup is the Tab A9. I know that it does not come with its own stylus, but can it be used with a third-party one, like the one from the S7 or the Kindle Scribe's?

As you know, there is no "official" stylus for the A9 tablet. There are 3rd party ones out there that claim to work. However, if you damage your screen as a result, then pop goes your warranty.

Here is what I have tested.

The Tab S7 stylus does not work.

The Kindle Scribe stylus does not work.

The one that does work is a huge one I have bought a few years ago, that replaces a finger and is almost as thick as one. It is is too thick for writing.

The tablet is going back, it's a shame that Samsung does not have a proper 8" tablet.

Going back? I thought you were just looking, and not actually purchased it yet.

The tab A with S-Pen (SM-P205) is a Samsung 8-inch tablet with S-Pen included, it's a few years old now (2019) but I have one and it's still suitable for light use and also functions as a cellphone (makes calls 4g LTE)

Or look at the more expensive ruggedized Samsung Active3 or Active5 tabs (8 inch) or Active4 (10 inch) that come with a stylus. So Samsung, has proper 8 inch tablets with S-Pen compatibility.
