Android Auto night mode

This is not a new issue however I thought this may have been fixed in this version of the OS. The issue is that Android auto does not automatically switch to night mode when the car lights come on. This used to work in android os 8 but since os 9 it stopped. The only workaround seems to be putting my phone into night mode.

Hi @Jeetyg,

Try this, go to:

* Settings> Google> Device Connections> Android Auto

 *Then scroll right down to the bottom,

* Tap 'Version & Permission Info' section 10 times.

This will activate developer mode...

* Click Ok if a message pops up.

* Now click the hamburger button (three dots in the top right corner)

* Click 'Developer Settings'

Click 'Day/Night

Finally select 'Car-Controlled

Ok, are you referring to the maps screen or the whole UI on the car screen?

I believe on the new layout of Android Auto the majority of the UI is always dark it will only be the pop up notifications & maps that change to light mode

Hi there

No the whole theme changes. I use it now when I switch my phone to night mode. All notifications and maps are in night mode. It doesnt auto switch as it used to which is the issue so when driving at night, or through a tunnel you get blinded by the brightness of the maps.

Hey @Jeetyg

It seems like the concept for it might have changed.

I will try to forward it as a suggestion then!
Let's see if that can be changed :winking-face:

@Jeetyg

I see, what have you got it set to within maps itself..

Under Navigation Settings.. is it set to automatic there?

Mine still changes based on the cars lights etc..

If that is set to automatic I would try clear Data & cache on the AA  by app followed uninstall updates, then update again...

I have the same problem. Android Auto GPS map background does not change to dark mode when the car lights turn on, if connected to my new Samsung S10+. It works fine when connected to my old Motorola.
