Why is my photos now heic format

It's annoying as I was not asked. 

I no longer have the ability to share photos 

So key question is how do I select jpeg format.

I change it in Camera but can not see how to do it in Gallery

Please don't tell me I dont have to convert each heic file now to jpeg

Hi, I dont think Gallery app allows you to convert HEIC to JPG ( unless you edit and save each photo as a copy). 

A simple Google search lists apps that can convert HEIC images to JPG. I have not used any, so cannot comment. I also came across one from Microsoft for Windows.

Im having the same issue it stared after june prior to that all my photos were jpg.  Im really pissed I have to convert them all individually on my pc.  I cant seem to change the settings back dont know how it got changed
