I have the same problem during my workouts!
@samsung: Is there a workaround? Please add a lock option 🔐. I also have a Huawei Fit 3, and it has this option! It works great!

Seems like Samsung is not interested in fixing this issue. I see posts from two years ago with customers complaining about it, but no fix. No idea why.
In the meantime, here's how I keep my watch from pausing my workouts:
- Start the workout.
- Press home button to go to main screen
- Activate water lock
When not in the exercise screen, the back button won't work as a pause anymore. The water lock keeps you from accidentally going into the exercise screen.
My watch will still occasionally take screenshots and even go to the power menu during boxing training though, so it's not really a solid fix.
I really hope Samsung would release and actual fix, such a simple thing to fix and should be no-brainer to be able to lock all the buttons and screens from accidental presses.

My watch regularly stops working during a workout (walk or run) and I don't think it's because I accidentally tap the pause button. I think it's a fault with the watch or the app, Samsung Health. Either way, I agree, Samsung doesn't seem interested that their products aren't fit for purpose. Ordinarily I'm a Samsung supporter but their watch is ***** for recording workouts.

A little update to my previous post on the issue. Unfortunately, the water lock hack was not enough to keep the buttons inoperable, and I was still getting workout pauses.
I've been experimenting with different approaches, and I think I have found a workaround for now:
- Setup a screen lock on your watch
- Disable "always on display" on your watch, and ensure it's not active on the workout settings either.
- Take the watch off your wrist so that the screen lock activates, and put it back. Ensure the screen stays locked.
- Use your phone to start the workout. When prompted, choose to start the workout on the watch instead.
- Now check your watch, press the "back" button to close the execise screen popup.
- Your watch *should* stay in a locked state for the workout.
- You could throw in an additional water lock just for extra safety
Now, I have a feeling this still might not be enough but I've been able to finish a couple of martial arts lessons without any autopauses on my workout.
Quite a workaround just to disable accidental button presses during a workout, but before Samsung takes time to fix this (not holding my breath), this seems like the only way.

The latest watch update (around 5 November 2025) seems to have fixed the problem. I haven't experienced any failures since the update.
