Hi,
I bought the Watch 4 Classic at realease, and pre-ordered the Watch 5 Pro that I received a few days ago. I was happy with the Watch 4, even though recharging every day was a bit of a drag. I was interested in the Watch 5 Pro due to its larger battery. So I decided to test it,whether it really lasted longer with my usual settings and usage, and whether it was worth losing the big ring.
Test conditions: watch4 and watch5 both recharged to 100%, then both worn at the same time, and if I noticed that one lit up, I'd light up the other. Settings where copied from the 4 to the 5.
Here is a table, with the percentages per watch, the the percentage lost per hour for each watch. Comments say when I turned Eco mode on or off, and I didn't wear them during the first night.
Date time | Watch 5, % | Watch 4, % | W5 %/h | W4 %/h | Comment |
24/08/2022 12:45 | 100 | 100 | Eco, worn | ||
24/08/2022 22:00 | 94 | 81 | 0.65 | 2.05 | Eco, not worn |
25/08/2022 08:45 | 88 | 64 | 0.56 | 1.58 | Eco, worn |
25/08/2022 12:45 | 79 | 45 | 2.25 | 4.75 | -Eco, worn |
25/08/2022 22:00 | 55 | 7 | 2.59 | 4.11 | -Eco, worn |
26/08/2022 08:50 | 33 | - | 2.03 | W5 wins |
Roughly, the 4 is using about twice the % of energy as the 5, with my usual settings and usage. And, I never checked the actual numbers before, but eco mode uses bout 1/3 of the energy used in normal mode. I wish we could have eco mode but with the watch turning on with the wrist gesture though.
IMHO the extra battery is worth it.

Also it estimated 22h hours left in eco mode and 18h30 without eco when I was at 33%
