Samsung Watch 4 LTE - Gpay doesn't work

Hi,

I have a similar problem with Gpay on Samsung Watch 4 LTE edition. The watch is paired with a Samsung S21 phone, running on Android 12 with One UI 4.0.

I successfully installed the Gpay application on both, watch and phone, Gpay is OK on the phone (I made several payments with Gpay on the phone at different merchants), but on the watch, each time when I try to open Gpay application, watch displays the message "Set Google Pay as your default to make contactless payments", and it redirects me to NFC-->Payment and there, only Samsung Pay application is available, there's no Gpay application, so I cannot select it as the default application.
This scenario happens each time when I try to open Gpay application on the Watch 4 LTE, the cards that have been incorporated on Gpay on the Samsung S21 phone are not visible on the Watch 4, so I cannot use the watch to make payments (I tried to pay with the watch at different stores, but nothing happens, as I expected).

Please note that I installed Gpay application via Play Store on the watch, but I also installed it by triggering the installation process from the phone, still the same issue.

More than that, I followed some suggestions from XDA developers forum and using ADB debugging I disabled Samsung Pay app on the watch and reinstalled Gpay from the scratch. Now, each time when I open Gpay, I got the same message to make it as default payment application and there, Samsung Pay app is not available anymore, but neither Gpay (under the Payment menu, Watch says "no payment application installed"). There area also other suggestions available on the XDA forum, but I'm afraid to not brick the watch.

It's quite a shame that Gpay application doesn't work on Samsung ecosystem (Watch 4 LTE + Samsung S21) and Samsung ignores this, they don't send an update or something to fix this software bug that is happening for more than 2-3 months.

My watch info is:

- model: SM-R875F

- CSC: R875FOXA1DUJA

Hi,
Try below

How to set up Google Pay defualt on your Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

Open the Google Play app on your Galaxy Watch 4.

Tap the search icon.

Speak or type Google Pay.

Tap the send/search icon.

Tap Google Pay.

Tap Install.

Tap Open.

Once installed, your card would automatically connect to your smartwatch.

Check if all your cards are included in the list of options.

Hi,

as I already explained in the initial post, I successfully installed Gpay application on the Samsung Watch 4, this is not the issue that I'm facing, the problem is each time I open the Gpay on the watch, it asks me to set is as default payment application, but when I go to NFC-->Payment there, only Samsung Pay application was available (now, Samsung Pay is not there anymore because I disabled it, however, Gpay still doesn't appear there, so I cannot select it as default payment application).

The cards have been successfully added on Gpay application on Samsung S21 phone, I'm able to pay with the phone, but on the Watch 4, I cannot add any cards using Gpay, so the cards are not visible to Gpay application on the watch, since I have the problem explained above, each time when I try to open Gpay on the watch (which has been succefully installed on the watch from the play store), the watch asks me to "Set Google Pay as your default to make contactless payments", and it redirects me to NFC-->Payment and when I'm there, now the Watch says "no payment application installed", even though Gpay has been succefully installed on the watch.

I tried resetting the watch to factory settings, reinstalled Gpay from the scratch, same problem...

Hi Sempron79,

I am having the exact same problem and have the exact same watch model (and CSC). It is paired with a Galaxy S10+. I tried all steps you mention with no luck. I also configured Samsung Pay to see if this would help somehow - again no luck.

Any help would be much appreciated!

hopefully Samsung vendor will provide a software update to fix this bug.

One of the community users - eliko1 - posted a possible solution for our problem with Gpay application on Samsung Watch 4 - I haven't had the chance to try it yet - here's the link with post with the proposed solution (at the end of the end, look for 'eliko1' user):

I have tried the suggested steps, no success in my case, still the same - see the attached pictures below, Gpay application has installed successfully, but when I try to open Gpay, it always redirects me to set it as default application, and there I cannot select Gpay since it doesn't exist (only Samsung application is there) - same old story.

I hope Samsung vendor will deliver a fix for this software bug. Of course, if they care about their customers.

Some updates on this matter: I have opened a ticket at Google support regarding Gpay issue on Samsung Watch 4, they contacted me and asked me for more details (screenshots, etc.) and after that, they come back to me and said their developers are aware about this problem and they are working to fix it. They also mentioned they keep me updated when they have some news on this subject.

Hopefully, Google will deliver a fix soon - I really need to be able to pay with my watch, this was one of the features that made me choose Samsung Watch 4.
