Samsung Watch 4 Classic Burning My Wrist

I just got the new Samsung Galaxy 4 Classic. I have had it a little over a week now. My issue is it is putting a burn mark on my wrist where the sensor touches. I have my watch monitor all day to monitor my activity, heart rate, stress etc...

After a few days, my wrist started burning. (Please see the attached photos) I took the watch off for a few days and put on some coconut oil, and Epsom salt and it started to heal. What's left is a perfect circle that matches the very inner circle of the sensor.

This is very concerning to me as I wear normal watches every day and this does not happen. This seems like a laser issue with monitoring.

Hi @thehypnootoad, do the marks gradually go away when you're not wearing the watch?

I have been wearing my watch 4 on my right hand while I wait for the left to heal.

I'm tempted to get rid of my watch 4 and switch brands (Won't be apple!).

Have you sought medical advice, it may be an allergic reaction?

It's not an allergic reaction, it's a burn. Confirmed by my GP!

I wore the Watch 3 for a whole year with no issue and prior to getting the Watch 4 Classic, I wore a Galaxy Watch all without issue. No idea why the Watch 4 Classic is burning me, I believe it uses the same sensors as the Watch 3?

I don't know if Samsung can verify/confirm if the emitting light is more powerfull than before.

If radiating more powerfull UVs or just heating the wrist at higher temperatures on the spot it can be "cooking" the skin.

I have received a private message from Samsung requesting my personal details so that they can make contact and discuss things. My left wrist is healing nicely but I will respond to their request later today as it may help diagnose any potential issue which in turn helps us, the consumer. 👍

Just a quick update...

A very pleasant Samsung employee contacted me by phone a few minutes ago and took some information about me, the situation and asked me what I was looking for in the form of a resolution. I told him that I wasn't looking for anything (no compensation or anything like that) and that I my intention was to just let them (Samsung) and anyone else with the same issue know that I too had experienced it.

Samsung wanted to inspect the watch, tear it down and see if they could find a fault. If no fault found, they would return the watch to me. If faulty, I could get a refund or replacement (I would have to chosen a replacement). It would have take a couple of weeks just to inspect it apparently! I declined, I didn't want my brand new watch stripped down, examined and then put back together only to be returned to me. After all, I can't see Samsung (or any company) admitting they found a fault that caused physical injury to a consumer!

My burn took several weeks to build to the point where I felt pain, blistered and bled. I was provided with a phone number, reference number, and was told to call back if I changed my mind. Truth be told, I would just sell mine on eBay and buy a Ticwatch Pro or something to replace it. I just can't be bothered dealing with such a tedious and possibly lengthy return process just for Samsung to send it back to me "repaired" when it's just so new.

Anyway, so far no burn on my right wrist and I'm roughly 10 or so days in on that hand! I turned off continuous heart rate monitor.🤞

My left wrist is healing:
