Original topic:

Samsung S7 Health app not showing route where we have walked.

Hi

My wife and I have recently purchased on  contract 2 Samsung SM-G930F 32GB Smartphones.

We have configured our Samsung Health Apps for walking.  When we have finished our walks the route has not been traced on the map. It is counting the steps and the distance correctly but it does not show correctly (map traced) on the roads and footpaths. It just shows a straighline across the map from one point to another.

Is there some configuration settings that need to set to enable this function.

Note.  Previous to this, I had a Samsung S5 for 2 years and my wife had a Motorola G3.  Both of these using the Samsung Health app showed the walked  route correctly on the map.

Any advice gratefully accepted.

Thanks

Despite changing many options that may or may not be relevant, we have this Health app does not work either of our two phones, so we have disabled it.

We have now downloaded MapMyWalk. It is a very simple program and works perfectly on both Samsung 7's and shows where we have walked.

Have a look under GPS and change it to high accuracy this will help and make sure power save mode is off  one of those sorted the same thing for me.

I had it on high accuracy and it did not show the route.   I have the power save mode to OFF also and still no route shown.

The problem remains the same.  Has anyone else any further configuration changes that might solve the problem.

Any help or suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks.

I just ran mine and had no problems so lets cut down the options which phone do you have? can you list which permissions the app has set up (settings>application info) just thinking if I can compair we might find what is a drift, have you tried another app like "Mymaprun" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapmyrun.android2&hl=en_GB) just to see if another app works fine (try and cross off hardware).

Thanks for get involved and assisting.

As you can see from my original Subject line the problem is with the Samsung S7.     In fact we have two (2) of them and they are both exhibiting exactly the same problem of not showing where we have walked on the map.  It is no big deal, just frustrating when we used to see the route on the two previous phones, a Samsung S5  and a Motorola G3.

When you think this through, it eliminates one particular phone's hardware, because it is happening on the two identical phones.

I have installed the app you suggest above and will experiment and post back my findings.

Thanks again.

Sorry I help out on as many posts as I can and often forget to check title lines, just had a random thought do you check your phones at any point in the trip? The only thing I can think that may differ from me to you is I have a gear s2 watch connected so when I go walking the dogs tomorrow I will leave it at home to see if I can emulate it. I hate to ser things not work as they should so very happy to help in any way I can. :winking-face:

I have an S8 and found a solution straight away. Just go to the settings and a quarter of the way down turn on 'location information'

Hope this helps

I know this is a old post but did you turn on detect workout or did u set a amount to walk because if you set walking to basic workout it would track exactly where you walk. I have a s7 and have no issues with it telling me where I am and where i have walked. I even use it for cycling and it automatically detects the workout and where I am

I have a S9+ with location information on.

When I start to track a run or walk explicitly by  selecting the exercise and track and basic workout the route will be correctly displayed in the map during the workout and after saving it.

However for auto detected walk or run (not tried others) the map will show as in the start of this thread, just as a map with a large area circled, the route is not shown.

So from this I assume that GPS is working fine when explicitly tracking workouts but perhaps not when auto detected.

Any help would be appreciated.

Oh and Samsung health just removed the runkeeper connected service, boo hiss 😒

I have an S9 and it does exactly the same thing. When it auto detects the walking activity it only displays the circled area not the route walked.

If I export the gpx file it auto detected and display that on a map then the route is shown.

I have location on and set to high and I know the app auto records the route to a gpx file, it just doesn't show it.

Still can't find a solution (sad face!)

Easiest solution and we have been using it for a long time is to download and use the app called MapmyWalk.

I have been having issues with my Gear2 and Samsung S8 recently stopped tracking my location on hiking workouts...In looking for a solution,  I saw your post.  I found a setting that you may need to turn on.  On the watch , Samsung Health App, select "Settings", then "Workout detection", then "Health pace".  On the Health pace screen you can turn the detection on or off and there is an option to turn "Auto locate" on or off.  My setting was turned off, so that may be the default and this may solve your problem.

Good Luck.

Hi when your on the main home page on Samsung health, click on three dots in top corner click on settings in there my location setting was turned off so it wouldn't even show a map when I went cycling or walking it just showed my stats. Had a look through my through app settings then came across this. Hey presto I have a map

I know this is an old thread; but I think I have found the cause, at least for my case.

I have an S10+ (SM-G975F) phone and I am using Samsung Health for tracking my walking activities. In the past few days, I have noticed that the app is not recording the route accurately on the map. When I looked at previous workouts, I found mixed results. Sometimes the routes are recorded accurately and sometimes, only start and end points for every km are recorded with straight lines in between.

I read the entire thread and tried all the given solutions (disabling power save, changing the GPS accuracy level, etc.) but none worked for me.

I have noticed that if I keep the app active on the foreground, then I get the map updated real-time properly. But if I press the power button to turn off the screen and make the app run in the background, the app stops updating the map. If I recall the app again, it will immediately update the map by plotting a straight line from the current location to the previous location recorded before the phone went off.

Therefore, this has to do with the app permission and the way it uses the GPS signal. The solution I found is as follows:

  1. Go to Settings à Apps à Samsung Health à Permissions à Location
  2. There are three choices: (1) Allow all the time, (2) Allow only while using the app, and (3) Deny.
  3. Make sure you select (1) if you want real-time (continuous) update to the map.

If you choose (2), you get the map with straight lines connecting locations at instances when the phone was waking up.

I hope this helps.

Best regards, Ashraf.

Ashraf, you hit the nail on the head!  THANK YOU!

After switching to a Pixel3a the mapping function on the Samsung Health stopped working. The configuration capabilities on this phone are much more sophisticated than on my previous phone and I did not notice the location setting defaults.

My route mapping is now back.

Best regards, Richard
