Samsung gear app incompatible with A8?

Just got a new A8 and am trying to connect it to my gear S2 Classic.

When trying to download the Samsung Gear app from the play store the following warning appears:

Your device isn't compatible with this version. 

I just got this phone and the first thing I did was update it so I'm pretty sure it's up to date:

Android version 7.1.1

Kernel 4.4.13

Who supplied the phone to you @Eyal

Ie was it perhaps imported from another country etc ?

If not then either return the phone to the seller and or visit a Samsung Service Centre or Samsung Experience Store for support.

I got my phone at an official distributor, and frankly your insinuation is insulting.

When i went to the Samsung store they restored my phone to factory default twice and tried to reinstall OS it from image . All of which didn't help.

In the end, after 2 hours, the lab tech just downloaded the software and installed it manually.

Be advised that you have a problem with the Samsung Gear app. Not sure if on A8 or in general.

I have the same issue. But the last update to the app was prior to the A8 release
