Galaxy Watch 4 Classic One UI 5.0 WearOS V 4.0. Android phone (Non Samsung)

It seems I can no longer backup my watch settings to my Samsung account as before.

I have tried installing Samsung SmartSwitch as prompted in the Wear App > Watch Settings > Accounts and backup but it just says 'No backup for this watch' and that doesn't change - even after weeks.

From what I have read, I may have to have a Samsung phone now, despite this always working on a non Samsung phone pre One UI 5.0.

Can someone confirm if Samsung have really removed this critical feature without warning and if so why the app still suggests the backup will happen instead of making it crystal clear that it is no longer available.

Hopefully, I have misunderstood and this is all a bad dream :smiling-face:
