What would be really nice is if Samsung would allow user-created exercises and we could either add them to the list in Samsung Health and then uploaded it to your watch. You would decide what parameters to track - distance via GPS, heart rate, # strokes per whatever time unit (they can do this with swimming laps, so they should be able to do it for kayaking or rowing), etc.
If they had this sort of capability we wouldn't need to wait for someone in who knows where to add it. Most likely, the developers have never sat in a kayak or rowing scull in their life. And like most mega large corps, they don't put resources into features that only a small set of potential customers might use. So rowers and kayakers will probably never get direct support from Samsung. I know it is on the wishlist for several other companies like Apple but they are probably as interested in this as Samsung. I also noticed a forum thread about tracking kayaking in the Fitbit forums. The mods at least directed them to the wishlist section.
And it's too bad your workaround no longer works. I could've accepted that. Not perfect but pretty good.
