Rash on part of my wrist from wearing the new 2018 46mm watchRash on part of my wrist from wearing the new 2018 46mm watch

I received my pre ordered Samsung Gear 46mm 2018 watch on September 7th 2018 and have been wearing it often. Remove it for showering and charging and sometimes I sleep with it.

Recently iv noticed this rash developing and it slightly irritates me. The rash area is sore red and it looks like the skin is stretched or burnt. Th picture does bit show as clear as seen in person.

Iv done some googling and found a few people complain about similar rash on the older gear watches. They state it could be the strap and say to try it on the other hand to see if you have an allergic reaction etc.

I have a bit of an issue with this, I am a contractor and work with my hands, if this causes something more serious or stops me from doing my work it would be financially un-beneficial for me.

I have been tested befoe for allergies and my results came back clear so I dont know exactly what going on.

If anybody from Samsung or otherwise can provide some insight into my situation please let me know asap. It's a bit annoying paying 300 quid for a watch that's going to give me a rash

Cheers

Hi @Jayde

When you wear the Galaxy Watch for a long time or do a high-intensity exercise while wearing it, skin irritation may occur due to friction and pressure. If you are wearing your Galaxy Watch for a long time, remove the Galaxy Watch from your wrist and do not wear your Galaxy Watch for several hours.

  • Skin irritation may occur due to an allergy, environment factors, other factors, or when your skin is exposed to soap or sweat for long periods. In this case, stop using your Galaxy Watch and wait 2 or 3 days for the symptoms to ease. If the symptoms persist or worsen, immediately call your doctor.
  • Make sure your skin is dry before wearing your Galaxy Watch. If you wear a wet Galaxy Watch for a long time, your skin may be affected.
  • If you use your Galaxy Watch in the water, remove foreign materials from your skin and Galaxy Watch and dry them thoroughly to prevent the skin irritation.
  • Do not use any accessories except the Galaxy Watch in the water.

What did the agent on the phone say to you?

Once again Carl, spouting the corporate line is just drivel. We know there is a problem with the strap for many people, and Samsung have been paying out compensation to cover the cost of replacement straps.

I have the Same issue too. Had the watch for a week. I contact support but they did not want to help . I asked to escalate the issue the handler said I will receive a call from their supervisor . It never happened! It's a disgrace . The redness is more apparent in real light . I've worn various smart watches for over 3 years and never experienced this before .    Please help Samsung!

Contact them again Jayde and insist on a part refund to cover the cost of a replacement non-silicone strap. No matter what they tell you, nothing should result in such a skin reaction to a watch strap, especially one on a fitness/smart watch designed to be worn when exercising etc.

I received a part-refund from Samsung UK back in November to cover a similar reaction to yours and others.

I would just like to say I have been following a guide that was given to me and the rash is gone also I've be drying my wrist and the watch after any activity and it's bee  much better also  having chanced to setting so the watch needs to be charged each day means it's off my wrist for 1-2 hours which has helped aswell

I’ve never needed to follow a ‘guide’ about how to wear a watch before. I just used the part-refund Samsung UK issued me and bought a leather strap. No further problems. No issues with having to mess about just because the supplied silicone strap was causing a serious skin reaction. I wear mine now for 3-4 days in between charges.

It may be a case that it's causing a issues for a few in my case I belive it's a friction issue which is hardly something Samsung can avoid there is no metal strap I like the look of or think will be comfortable for me and leather straps make my wrist sweat which would not make the issues worse

It IS definitely a case that it’s causing an issue for more than a few. You’re lucky yours is just down to friction. Others, including me were having far more serious reactions to the silicone strap, which have been 100% resolved by using a leather strap. If anything, I am now wearing the watch more, all the time except for a couple of hours every 3-4 days.

I have the same issue and I only wear the watch for 8 hours a day. I can't wear it at work and I take it off at night. So you're telling us that you want us to wear the watch less than 8 hours a day? Is that an early April fool's joke?

It is crazy that a quality product was shipped with a strap that causes these problems for many. It’s all well and good people saying ‘“it’s friction, tough” but surely it’s not unreasonable to want to wear your watch without it causing skin burns and blistering?

Thank you for your reply. I do not use it for exercise also I'm aware of the DOS and don'ts re hygiene . As I mentioned in my previous post this has never happend before with my previous watches with rubber bands. This I why I find it strange . I will take your advise and leave it off for a few days for my rash to heel . But if it happens again I will return the watch for a full refund as it's not fit for purpose.

10:29:53Right, It is very odd this as my previous samsung watch with a rubber strap has never made any marks on to my skin? I had my previous wath for 2 years with no effect on my skin - Nothing has changed in my circumstances - I have only been wearing the new watch for a week and started seeing these marks after 3-4 days - I understand you statements above but Ive never had an issue before -. I think there is something wrong with the new rubber strap- I have paid £300.00 for a watch that has left me with burn type marks - I have worn watches all my life and NEVER experienced this. Surely theres something to help me? Or to explain why this particular strap is causing these issues, and after looking online I'm not the only one many people are experiencing the same issues.
