Hello, I recently added a data plan to my watch and Samsung seems to not use my phone as a relay correctly.
So, when a watch is connected to WiFi, you can make phone calls with it using your phone as a sorta base station. The phone makes the actual call but sends the voice to the watch over the Internet. Same goes with texts. Watch tells the phone to send a text, phone does it, sends reply to watch using the Internet. The issue starts when you have a data only phone plan on a watch.
When I try to make a phone call, the watch doesn't use the data connection to tell my phone to start a phone call. It tries to make the call itself. Something that doesn't work on a data only plan. I can sms fine, my watch uses my phone at home to send and receive texts. But the watch won't use my phone for phone calls no matter what I try. Any help?
If it works over WiFi, it'll work over data. It's just getting the watch to use the same system it uses for WiFi with data.
Kinda being vague with the model of watch as it shouldn't matter, they all use the same OS. But I specifically have the watch ultra.

The data plan on your watch only kicks in once out of range of Bluetooth from your phone and when not on the same WiFi as your phone. If either of those are still in range your watch shouldn't use its own data plan.

My issue is, when my watch is using its own data plan. It doesn't try and use my phone for phone calls. My watch data plan is data only, it doesn't have calls. It also means if I get my watch a cell plan with a different phone number. I cannot answer calls to my phone, even when both have an Internet connection

I'm pretty sure that even data only still allows your watch to make calls because it does that using volte.

My watch and phone have different numbers but they are linked so when in range calls and texts always come via the phone which you can answer on your watch. When out of range of your phone your watch will take and receive calls via its own data as if it is still within range of your phone. Its almost like forwarding.

That's the issue, mine isn't doing that. As soon as I start using data, calls to and from my phone don't go to my watch. And any calls made from my watch error out because my watch esim doesn't support calls

Little update, I found the option to change between watch call and phone call. But the phone option goes away when I use WiFi or data, so watch call is the only option

OK so, it seems calls only work over Bluetooth. As soon as I swap to WiFi or watch data it stops allowing me to use my phone to call. "Call and text on other devices" isn't showing my watch. Guessing that's the issue. Turned it off, waiting a day to turn it back on again
