When attempting to play tracks saved to my watch or through spotify via my bt headset a message pops up - "Can't play tracks during calls" message. There are no calls going on. Please help!

After connecting the watch to your new bluetooth headphones, you need to restart the watch. After the watch had restarted, then go to setting on the watch and forget the bluetooth pairing. I then repaired the headphones and it worked fine.
The headphones I have are Kamtron Marathon. Seems a bit of a long winded way to go about it, but worked for me.
