I recently changed from a watch 4 to watch 5 pro and I just say that the heart rate monitor is totally different and the 5 pro under records my HR all the time, indicating my HR is lower than it actually is. On a recent run my watch said I maxed out at 172bpm and averaged 156bpm. I know using a polar chest strap that my HR was 183 and averaged 163 (I was pushing hard deliberately).
This also means that my Samsung calculated VO2 max is terrible (recording 33.3) where as polar works out out at 37.8.
Samsung - can you please fix this glitch? It's a right demoralising issue and causing significant reading errors when I'm doing my exercise.
