Galaxy watch 4 - red exclamation mark on the left hand side

Less than a month old and my galaxy watch 4  watch has started showing a red exclamation mark on the left hand side. It is always there no matter what screen you are on.

Unread notifications are shown with a dot at the 9 o'clock position. Only one indicator is shown regardless of the number of notifications. The dot is coloured orange for regular notifications and red for urgent ones.

You Can Turn it off at galaxy wearable notification settings: advanced notification settings >notification indicator.

I think I figured it out in the end but 6 months later the watch died and I had to send it back to Samsung who took forever to fix it with me constantly chasing them up. Incidentally, don't buy a Samsung monitor as they are garbage as well.
