Div, have you tried a Vodafone SIM or Telstra SIM in Australia yet? I am sure that a Lycamobile SIM won't be compatible with your current S9 - it's the same substandard network that Telstra rent to Aldimobile and that is definitely incompatible. Most Telstra and Vodafone networks in Australia seem to be S9 compatible (other than one guy who was travelling around in northern NSW)... and obviously this is just a workaround until Samsung get their act into gear! ... I would like Samsung to contact me and work through me to provide a version of the S9 with fixed hardware to test in each region.    Apart from gathering the list of all countries and providers reporting this problem, I have compiled a list of:   1) the first S9 user in each region having the "silence on calls"  issues on their S9.   2) the most active complainants on all forums who are also very unhappy Samsung fans and are having this problem.   Samsung, please let the people who have brought this problem to attention help solve it! ... After 2 x replacement S9's, I tested then changed to a TELSTRA SIM in Perth, Australia and this has   FIXED   my day to day "silence on calls" issue  for this area .   Has anyone else found that an alternate Service Provider's SIM works fine for their area like I have?   I can replicate the issue immediately by changing back to the previous provider's SIM (also on the TELSTRA 4G network but a capped and limited version - mobile virtual network operator (MVNO)). I would also bet that I could replicate the issue with my new TELSTRA SIM if I moved into an area in Australia that had a different Telstra network set-up. I believe its a compatibility issue between the S9 and the specific network capability and is dependent on the network equipment and software implemented in that specific area.  If anyone else finds an area where their phone works fine with a different provider's SIM then that would be interesting to know. ... Well then I am just glad that I worked out how to make my same S9 have no silences in Perth, Australia and yet I can still replicate the original problem at whim by merely swapping SIM so my phone is on a different version of the same network that's clearly incompatible. SAME S9, SAME settings but NO SILENCES FOR 7 DAYS. Whoo Hoo! After 4 weeks of great frustration and two replacement S9s.    Problem is now FIXED for my current lifestyle tho it may reoccur if I travel to where you live and use your service provider and networks.   FYI, all 3 x S9's with silence on calls had intermittent silences regardless of how stationary I was or not. Good idea. So far the 3 different Aldimobile SIMS I tested in 3 different S9s all had silence fault. The 2 different Telstra SIMs I tested in the last two of the three S9 phones I had both had no silences during calls. Hence my problem was solved in Perth, Australia by changing my service provider. If I swap back to the Aldimobile SIM then intermittent but regular ~6 seconds SILENCES reoccur from the first call of over about 4 minutes. The network that works is Telstra's "4GX"  service. The other mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) using  Telstra MVNO network (with deliberate limitations) also have SILENCES during calls (e.g. Woolworths, LycaMobile). It would be interesting to know if only a subset of the EE network users are having problems because they also limit their services to MVNOs. (Three S9s with the silence on calls issue)  Microphone not being blocked by a finger as I get ~6 second silent patches when I am on speaker, using headphones, on the car phone and speaking directly into the microphone. More likely compatibility issue between S9 software capabilities and the hardware/software capabilities of the Network Provider because Aldimobile is MUCH worse than Telstra. Yes, this is quite normal for the new Samsung Galaxy S9. You get free, regular ~6 second breaks during calls. Its a form of meditation that Samsung have introduced to get us to all slow down   Seriously, I am on my 3rd Samsung Galaxy S9. All of them have had the same issue. I have applied all the firmware upgrades available for Australian model G960F - so far ARB1, ARCA, ARCC and these firmware versions made no difference, still regular silent spots when using an AldiMobile SIM in Australia.   HOWEVER I get no discernable drops in 4G zones when using Telstra SIM with VOLTE enabled on my line (had to ask the provider) however the 3G reception gets really scratchy, hard to hear / awful but still no discernable silent spots. BUT I have only been testing Telstra for 1 day so this MAY just be coincidence... time will tell... over the next few days I will also test Telstra with VOLTE off and see if being on the Telstra network is any better than AldimobileAldimobile (No VOLTE). ...
