Thanks for the replies, I had tried to copy the torch app across to the home screen but failed, I had read that many torch apps have unwanted extras, I will continue as is for the time being.

Thank you for your reply, I agree SS should be able to differentiate two A40's however that would only be confirmed, or not, after I have purchased the second phone, I must admit that connecting my A40 to SS, SS gives it a rather odd identification. I cannot remember what it was but looked very odd. If I can be certain of it seeing two different phones then fine but if not her and my appointments could get mixed up. I do use Outlook, she does not and I wonder what the Sync would do.
I would like to keep her phone rather basic as she has a habit of just hit and hope which usually means she has changed settings or even deleted something she should not have done!
I am thinking maybe an A30 or A20 would be a better bet, maybe less functions but similar to the A40 in operation?

My wife is using my old S3 but I am thinking of buying her an A40 the same as mine in a different colour in the hope it will be less confusing for both of us. Mostly me. I would be using SS on one PC. Can SS differentiate between two A40's and not mix up her and my contacts and settings, apps etc !?

Why is problems are like buses, don't see one for ages than a whole bunch arrive? I've been using Smart Switch for years with Outlook 2010 worked fine. I have now got Outlook to sync with my Google calendar so I can update directly on my A40 Google calendar without going through the Smart Switch system. On Outlook I have events going back to 2015 or earlier and although many are useless some, like hospital, holiday, and some appointments are good dates to keep a record of. On the last Smart Switch sync it only synced from Outlook from the 13th November 2019 and all events that were previously on the A40 disappeared, although they are still in Outlook. It seems that Google calendar which had no entries prior to 13th November has become the dominating calendar but as I synced with A40 to Outlook using S/S I do not understand why anything previous was deleted. I had taken a Calendar back up in S/S before the above scenario so did a calendar restore thinking that the previous file would replace one with lost events, not so, it made no difference the previous events were still not shown. I checked in the S/S back up folder and found my calendar back up folders which were shown as empty and anyway you do not get a choice of which back up file date you want to restore. I am using CalDav syncronizer in Outlook to sync with Google. Yet again I am hoping someone can shed some light on this and suggest a way to add the lost events to my A40.

Hi Andrew. They were in the Gallery app but in the photo details it still showed as being in the Samsung Cloud, I did check on My Files but none of the ones I needed to delete were shown there. In my previous Samsung phones pics were in the DCIM folder. On my A40 in My Files it shows under Samsung Cloud Drive 3.49GB free. When in Samsung account>clould I have used 0.00% of 15GB. The mysteries of mobile phones! Thank you for your fast reply and advice.

Hi. I have about 50 photos on my A40 from a recent holiday, I have copied these to my PC and would now like to delete them from the camera. I have checked the DCIM file and they do not appear there, although on the camera it states: on some photos as Path /Internal storage/DCIM/Camera. I also have some others that I would also like to delete these show as being in Path /Samsung Cloud/DCIM/Camera and I cannot locate that etiher. My Samsung Cloud storage shows as 0.00% used of 15gb. So, it seems I can view photos that do not exist. Any suggestions?

Thank you for the reply, if I could get my A40 to sync with my online Google account I might be getting somewhere, unfortunately this fails no matter what I try. Deleting data and cashe on the phone did not make any difference. When I add an event on the Google mobile calendar it does not appear on my online Google calendar but does sync across to my Digical calendar on the A40. I have given up at the moment as I am not far off throwing the toys, and the phone, out of my pram!!

Did not find the reason and in the end phoned 'BT Mobile' they helped me delete a lot of settings and re-install them after which all seems to work fine now.

Brilliant Setting to Vibrate on shutdown works a treat, on starting the phone stays silent, after starting the Settings>Sounds and Vibrations shows Sound Mode as Sound. So selecting Vibrate keeps the start-up silent and no need to re-enable sound as this is automatically activated after starting. I know it seems a small thing but having stickers for an event is very useful to me, our family plays bowls, our team consists of different players for each game, the games all have the same title and times, having a sticker for each player meant I could easily change the player by changing the sticker, if two players were needed I just had a different sticker; 'Simples' as they say! Anyway, looking forward to the update, hope we get the always on display option.

On my old S3 I could use a consolidated action to download from multiple email accounts. I tried the Gmail app on my A40 but I needed to download each account separately which was a bit of a time waste. I downloaded the Samsung email app but this also seems to want to download each single account. Is the consolidated download of accounts how a thing of the past? Having to do my accounts, my wife's accounts and our club accounts one at a time is rather annoying.

Tried the suggestions, seem the only way to silence this is to change a file in the phones root which could brick the phone. I don't feel brave enough to attempt this at the moment.

Thanks for the reply and suggestions, I wil try them out. I have half a mind to stay with the S3, much easier/simpler to use. But maybe I just need more time with the A40 to sort it out! The S3 has widgets that I can use on my opening screen like largish time and date info, the A40 does not seem to have these widgets, anythin you want to see you have to unlock first.

Newbie here. Hi. Just upgraded from my old trusty S3 to a new A40. I have found that the phones start-up wakes up the boss which is not a good idea at 05.00! I cannot find how to shut the start-up sound off. Also. The S Planner calendar on the S3 was brilliant, I could add a emogi to the appointment like a tick, pin, an X etc that was shown on the monthly or weekly calender, also the appointment was word wrapped: john smithe rstone whereas the A40's is just one truncated line: john smithe Anyone suggest a replacement like the old S planner? Free or paid for without annoying ads would be bonus. Thanks for any advice, I will probably be asking a lot of questions
