"   If you have a problem with the White fonts on a gray background, that usually means that you are running a downloaded theme, something that you downloaded to make your phone "Look Right."  You might try either turning your theme off and trying it without a theme.  Another option is to turn your theme off and try Night mode.  Settings > Display > Night Mode.  Or simply download another theme that is designed for One UI.  Your current theme sounds like one that was designed for Oreo and will not function properly under One UI.  Most themes developers that people have used to download in order  to "Get a flagship phone to look right" have updated their themes to work with the new OS.   ... I haven't jumped back into this thread in a couple of weeks, so here I am.  Yes, their "Fix" is a fairly good stop gap measure to fix a problem that they created.  As you mentioned, yes it does switch back to the default when and if you delete the thread.  I usually don't delete the threads of my important contacts either, but that is not the only problem.   My pharmacy sends me a text message when it's time for my meds to be renewed.  It's all computer driven.  So I don't need my regular text message tone (Think - Close Encounters of the Third Kind) when a computer sends me an automated message.  I HAD them set to a quiet simple beep so that I knew there was no rush to answer a computer back.  And I see no need to maintain copies of all those texts between me and my pharmacy.  On the other hand, my Alarm company was set with a loud, obnoxious tone to let me know that there was and EMERGENCY that needed my attention RIGHT THEN.  But now, I have to maintain all those messages.  The other bug.  Group messages.  (I love bringing this one up... Again.. )  Say I make the following assignments to the threads of conversations.    Tone A to Friend A Tone B to Friend B  Tone C to Friend C I send a message to Friend A and I get Friend A's tone in return.  The same with B and with C.  BUT, if I send a GROUP message to Friend A, Friend B, and Friend C, and then Friend A responds to the group, I get DEFAULT tone.  If Friend B responds to the group, I get DEFAULT tone.  If Friend C responds to the group, I get DEFAULT tone.  And most of my text messages go to either groups of Friends, Family Members, Co-workers, Team Members.....   Sure, I can assign a tone to the thread of the Group, but I have to maintain that entire thread and I can't tell who is responding without looking at the phone.  Before, I could tell, do I need to get it NOW or can it wait a minute?  Is it my wife texting me or one of my daughters?  Is it my co-worker?  My good friend?  My Boss?  Is it my alarm company telling me my house is on fire, or is it my pharmacy saying that my meds are ready to be picked up?  Do I need to grab my phone NOW or can it wait a few minutes to get back to?   Simple fix?  Return the feature to the CONTACTS APP where you assigned a custom text message tone to the Contact and not the thread.  From what I've been able to find, it is a ONE UI feature and not a PIE feature.  I checked a friends LG and it was still in his contacts listing.   And now that you have woken the bear again, I am returning to my cave and hibernate again for a while..   ... Or press on the app in the app drawer, drag it to the top of the app drawer, it will go to the home screen, then still holding it, drag it to either the folder you want, or on top of another app to create a folder.  (You might have to chase the app around for a few seconds)  I have about 80 apps on my phone, all on one screen.  I hate flipping back and forth trying to find one app.   ... Ok.. since the newer posters don't seem to want to read all the previous posts and insist that the app currently works with the "Fix" that Samsung initiated in which the custom text tones are assigned to the conversation thread, I will repeat this again.  It is not fixed.  And to prevent having to go through that long explaination AGAIN about why it doesn't work, I'll cut and paste from about 10 pages back on this conversation.     I don’t think that reverting back to a previous version of messaging will do the trick.  In the past, the specific tones were assigned through the Contacts app, and not the Message app.  The contact app no longer has the field for “Custom Text Tone.”  There is still a field for “Custom Ring Tone.”  Textra, Mood and all the other texting apps have apparently had to change also since all now seem to use the feature of tagging the Conversation and not the Contact anymore.  I’ve downloaded Mood for example and tried it.  They do the exact thing that Samsung has done with their “Fix”.  They tag the Conversation and have nothing to do with the contacts listing.   Here is a good way to test it.  Pick 3 friends that you have text conversations with.  Now, using the current method: Assign Tone A to Friend A’s conversation Assign Tone B to Friend B’s conversation Assign Tone C to Friend C’s conversation Send and receive one on one messages from all three one at a time, and you get Tone A for Friend A, Tone B for Friend B and Tone C for Friend C.  Now, put all three friends into a   Group   text scenario.  Send a message to all three and wait for their replies.  You will receive: Default Tone for Friend A Default Tone for Friend B Default Tone for Friend C So if I assign a custom text tone to someone, I must preserve that thread for all eternity.  Previously, under Nougat, under contacts, you assigned Friend A’s tone to Friend A, Friend B’s Tone to Friend B and Friend C’s Tone to Friend C.  And when they replied, you got their assigned tones, no matter whether they were responding one on one, or in a group.    For example, my drug store sends me text messages advising me that my prescriptions are due for refill.  So I saved them as a contact and assign a quiet, non-obtrusive tone for them.  Just a quiet beep.  And it’s worked for years.  Now I must preserve these automated texts for all eternity to preserve this quiet beep, or clean them out since I don’t need them and have the next month’s messages revert back to my default tone so I have to stop what I’m doing to check an automated computer message.   I did the same with my Alarm company.  I saved them as a contact and when they send me a message, I want a really loud, obnoxious tone to let me know there is a major problem.  My wife and daughters all have custom individual tones.  If my eldest sends me a message, I know who it is immediatly.  But if she sends a group message to me, my wife, and my other daughter all I get is my default tone.  Where before, I got the individual tones all the time and I knew who it was prior to looking at my phone.   ...
