Hi Guys, First off, Happy New Year to all. (If you can ever be happy on a product support forum :smileyhappy:) Following on from the previous post. As repeater mode is in a hidden menu I think it would be off unless you went in and changed it. DO NOT ENABLE THIS MODE AND THEN UPDATE THE APP IN CASE THIS OPTION IS REMOVED.   I've got a couple of questions if anyone can help? If like me you have auto update turned off (on everything) for fear of an unwanted update, I manually check every now and then so... My TV is a UK ks8000, current firmware is 1201 and it reports that no updates are available. Samsung UK shows ver 1208.2 dated 15 Nov, 2017 is available. Is anyone on a version lower than 1208 and TV is not finding an update? Is anyone on 1208 with improvements/problems? Hi Guys Not that this helps with the surround sound issue but I've found a hidden sub menu in the Wireless multiroom app (4.0.79) which allows you to turn the R360 speakers into wireless repeaters. If this is useful to anyone or it actually works to extend wifi range? Here's how... Turn on your R360 speaker(s). In the app go to Device settings > Advanced Settings > Network Status. This should show what is connected (in my case it was 2 entries for R1 speakers with a wifi icon at the right hand side of each). To access the Repeater Mode menu tap quickly (10 times I think) on the top speaker in the list (not the soundbar if this is also in the list as it does not seem to support this mode). With my 2 R1's connected, the Repeater Mode menu shows both with a toggle switch at the right. I turned both on and the wifi analyser app I was using shows 2 access points named "Direct **Samsung Wireless Audio" This is as far as I've looked into this feature   . ... View more

Here's my setup... Tv = KS8000 F/W 1168 (TV shows no update available) HW-K650 F/W 3111 2 x R1's F/W 3112 I've supplied these, although I'm failing to see the point of Samsung needing this info at this late stage in the process. Although they seem to be showing a renewed interest, I don't see this request for firmware information as being a step forward, in fact it seems like a step backwards. Even if we all had a different mish-mash of firmware up to the latest level it would just show that none of them work.   I understand that this would be something you would initially ask, to confirm that someone with a problem was on the latest firmware release. BUT ONLY IF THE LATEST FIRMWARE WAS A CURE TO THE PROBLEM. Which leads on to the second flaw in this 'logic'... there is a newer firmware (1169.2 dated 27 Apr, 2017) available for my KS8000 (which I found out from this forum) but the TV reports that I'm on the latest level. So the firmware info I've just supplied will be incorrect when the TV decides to update (new firmware dated 6 days ago and still not found by TV) If it does'nt help with the surround problem hopefully it will cure some of the other problems with this TV. The HW-K650 firmware download page shows the 'latest' firmware level as 3108.9 dated 15 Feb, 2017 The R1 firmware download page shows the 'latest' firmware level as 3111.1 dated 2 Mar, 2017 I think the people at Samsung must be sitting with their Gear VR headsets on coz they ain't coming up with any real world solutions. I used to have a Samsung mobile a few years back. Needless to say that I'm now on my second Sony and very happy with it. We bought a Samsung ecobubble washing machine a few years back (more the wifes department) but she's not been happy with that because it occasionally refuses to spin as it is unable to overcome an uneaven load balance. Needless to say that the next one will probably not be a Samsung. The TV I got in the bundle is set on the twin tuner Freesat. This occasionaly loses channels from the channel list, defaults to BBC 2 (102) when it was turned off whilst on ITV HD (111), 111 is set to my local region but occasionally changes to the London region. Yeah the product might be niche but the customer service is also a big issue.   I bought the soundbar between Christmas and New Year as part of a (£1598) TV+Blue-ray+soundbar bundle from Richer Sounds. Then another (off the top of my head without finding the receipt) £180 for the 2 R1's I haven't been in touch with Richer Sounds about it as I thought that this forum making Samsung aware of the problem would get it sorted.   Will pm Rob my email now ... I've only had this kit since Dec/Jan. So respect goes to all of you who have put up with this fiasco for longer. After installing the latest (R1) speaker update I spent (wasted) most of a nice fine Saturday messing about with different setup connections and came to the same findings as most others, optical is ok any other is not. I think we all appreciate each others help and advice but considering this kit is all from the same manufacturer, it should work out of the box/plug & play and have consistant volume levels on ANY connection method (unless stated otherwise). To receive info from Samsung saying that "the most recent update has yielded positive results in our AV department lab tests, and that the grouping of products within their tests are working to specification" is just useless to us. They need to clearly define the equipment (whether the tv model makes a difference) cables used and any HDMI standards, all relevent tv/soundbar/speaker settings, video/sound test files and which connection methods (optical/HDMI/WiFi) have been tried and which work or not (and why not)   Good luck to Robbienobs regarding the engineers visit. It'll be interesting to see if the engineer has been briefed about the problem and if he knows that there is (at the time of writing this) a 64 page forum thread about it. I'd be tempted to say to him... there's the kit, make it work on HDMI and WiFi. I think it would be an important point for the engineer to not be able to get it to work, rather than him report back that you could not get it to work. The only redeaming feature I find useful is the ability to play music from my NAS drive or internet radio from TuneIn in the multiroom app. I'll finish this by throwing another spanner into the works. I also have the Samsung UBD-K8500 UHD 4K Blu-ray Player. When connected directly to the TV and just sitting on the (Blu-ray) home screen, the TV info shows the resolution as 4k. When connected via the soundbar the resolution is 1080. In the Blu-ray settings menu if I change the resolution from auto to force a 4k output, the screen goes blank with a source connection message after a few seconds. So, unless there is some setting that I've missed because I expected a simple plug & play, I suspect the HW-K650 will not do 4k pass through from the UBD-K8500 (a topic for another thread maybe?)   ... Hi Guys, I've been watching this thread for a while now waiting for a solution to this. I've decided to sign up to add my name to list of people affected by this problem. After buying some new Samsung kit over the Christmas/New year period I can honestly say that I'm thoroughly dissapointed with its performance. I was mainly looking for a new TV but bought a bundle consisting of a KS8000 Tv, UBD-K8000 4K Blu ray player and the HWK-650 soundbar as it looked like a good deal. A week or so later when I found out that it was possible to add a couple of wireless speakers to make it a 5.1 system I purchased a pair of R1 speakers. I've lost track of all the different ways I've tried to get this working but nothing works for me. As well as the promised firmware updates there also needs to be clear information from Samsung on the connection options for 5.1 to work. On the subject of firmware, on page 35 Robbienobs posted on 15/02 that he had received news that... " a software update has been released to the soundbar to address customer comment over the volume level in surround mode when using the WAM Multi channel system" but after checking, leelazer and Robbienobs posted that no update was available. There does appear to be an "update" at the support site (http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/model/HW-K650/XU) which is also dated 15 Feb, 2017 but the Upgrade File(USB type) ver 3108.9, is a lower version than the present. Can someone from Samsung clarify this? @DreamTallStart , you mentioned that you have a 8500 4K Blu-ray. Can I ask how you have this connected to the TV. If I connect mine through the sound bar I don't get 4k at the TV. Swapping the Blu-ray for another 4k source, using the same cables etc gives 4k at TV. I'm confused with this also. ... View more
