Looking at the Apple TV specs,  it's says that you should make a direct connection to a receiver that supports LPCM. (There is no mention of Bitsteam).   i have the Samsung KS8000 TV. Simon, This is exactly what I have found. Before the update, I couldn't get 5.1 working over wi-fi. Since the latest update, I am able to play some films with 5.1 over Wi-Fi, but not all.  This is with the sound bar at 0, and the R1's at full volume.  Even then, it could do with a little bit more volume at times. The film I am playing is 'Central Intelligence'. The beginning soundtrack is very good for the surround effect   (the actual film isn't too great though). Really good to have somebody with your knowledge and experience on the forum. Hopefully Samsung might start to listen to what everyone has been telling them... I have just checked the firmware updates on my soundbar and speakers (R1's)   Soundbar 3111.2 Speakers 3112.5   For the first time, I am getting 5.1 sound on Wi-Fi     You have to have the soundbar turned right down and the R1's turned up to the Max, but it works! I know that for a lot of people, using a HDMI or optical cable is an 'acceptable' work around.   However, if you have the correct Samsung TV model, you should be able to utilise Wi-Fi for 5.1 surround sound (as Samsung advertise).   I have the KS8000 TV.   Rob - I hope that you'll be demonstrating that grouping the speakers into 5.1 surround mode and getting it work over Wi-Fi, simply doesn't work.   If you can’t accommodate for whatever reason, send them over to me! Hi all,   I have had the K650 sound bar and R1 speakers since Christmas. I have followed this thread with interest and even e-mailed Head Office to make a complaint about the Wi-Fi 5.1 not working.  Their response - "We'll let our technical team know".  Nearly 4 months later and still nothing!  Samsung of course are still selling the sound bar stating that it works as a 5.1 Wi-Fi surround system.  Its total miss selling. The system as it stands DOES NOT WORK.   The moderators on here never reply to any questions. When eventually they feel obliged to do so, (due to the sheer numbers of people complaining), all they say is "This was just a trial forum. We'll try to do better in the future".   Then everything goes quiet for another month or so!...   I don’t think Samsung realise how p’off everyone is. Hi,   I too hope this issue gets resolved...   Here's the rub.  I actually ended up taking my Samsung K650 soundbar and R1 speakers back to the shop, a few days before the firmware was updated on the soundbar!  On hearing that the new firmware has been released, I have decided to give the kit another go!!   I might be a complete fool, but to be honest with you, there's nothing else in the marketplace that gives you wireless 5.1 sound (when it works of course) at this price point.  I also like the size and look of the Samsung Soundbar and speakers.   I haven't set it up yet, but I am tempted to connect the soundbar up to my home wireless network, without Internet access. Then I was going to 'disable' automatic updates, hoping that the new soundbar would still have the first 'working' version of the firmware installed.  Maybe then, I could enjoy wireless 5.1 surrrond sound, configured through the TV, while I await confirmation it's all working.  Would also be an interesting excercise, to prove it's definately a firmware related issue on the TV soundbar. It's been interesting to read about all these different approaches, to get the 5.1 surround sound working.   However, I am worried that all these posts are 'masking' the real issue. Samsung sell this Soundbar as having Wi-Fi multiroom capability, that can be used with their range of 360 speakers to give you true 5.1 surround sound.   I don't want to use Optical, having to reduce the Subwoofer levels all the time, or adjusting the volume, depending on if you're watching TV or another input source. I just want the product to do what it says on the packet!!   I have a new 49KS8000 TV. This Soundbar should work as advertised! Just tried to log my issue with Samsung CS via the phone.  I thought that if I logged another call stating the same issue, it might have helped highlight it as a more 'urgent' problem.  My God - what an awful experience.  After 40 minutes, I gave up. First they couldn't find the R1 speaker on their system. Then they told me that 5.1 surround sound wasn't supported with the HW-K650 and the R1's. I pointed out that this is not what the Samsung webpage stated!   When I told him that I wasn't the only person experienceing these issues, and that there was a pretty big 'thread' on the UK Samsung forums about it, he said he would be passing me to the R1 speaker support team to see if they could help.   It was at this point I decided that I wasn't ready to waste hours of my life trying to convince Samsung they have an issue with their hardware if they weren't willing to listen to me. I find it amazing that nobody at Samsung HQ has a KS series TV, a couple of 360 surround speakers and a K650 soundbar.  Set the hardware up and see for yourselves that it doesn't work!  It's not rocket science!   If you can't be bothered to do that, then come round and look at mine.  However, you'd better be quick as I'll be taking it all back to the retailer soon...   Very disappointed in Samsung.  It's true what they say. Hello everyone, i just wanted to 'chip in' and say that I have exactly the same issue. I have a KS8000 TV, HW-K650 soundbar and I have just purchased a pair of Samsung R1 speakers. Trying to get the surround sound to work on (Wifi multi channel) is resulting in very poor, low volume, muddy sound quality. Speakers on 3111.1 /180R. Sound bar on 3108.9 / 0335.0R Very disappointing. Only got this set up for Christmas.
